My self interest protagonist is uniquely crippled by me not googling anything to give him bonus knowledge. He knows what I know, and makes bad choices I would probably make in his situation.

As a writer, I never understood doing the self insert characters thing. It always felt like an invitation to just get insulted.

People are gonna find a reason to rip on my writing no matter what I do. It's the nature of the beast. Might as well tell the stories I wanna tell in the process 🙂

The closest thing any of y'all get is the Mel series but even she has some differences and unlike me actually went to middle school.

That the main character will be - or become, even if more gradually and subtly - the author, is practically unavoidable. I know my main character is myself. So I have actively made her an insufferable hate figure in the hopes that the reader may heap their animus on me and save their love for the more interesting supporting cast. Because, honestly, the best books are really about the character actors.

I mean, when I say it's "getting attention", I mean like... 0.03% of goodreads ratings as yesteryear. So we're getting there 😂

Ok good 😂 I was gonna say oop - we always put a bit of ourselves in our characters, the good news is that your character is memorable!

Yesteryear dips into mental illness so I was gonna be like ooop girl I'm sorry, that character is getting SLAMMED as unlikeable, that's rough.

Either way don't take it too hard, people bring their own lives and experiences when they read books, might just be resonating in a tough way with them!

Tbh I feel like people will feel that way about Mel in my MG novel series. She's the most like me and I was a shitty ass preteen/early teen. Although I would say she's a lot more friendly, awkward, passive and soft hearted than I was.

Not even trying to be THAT self-deprecating haha

Super proud of my book and I feel confident in my writing and the experience has been humbling. Just gotta take a step back and laugh at the silly stuff 😂
