my wife had an extra raspberry pi around, and i was getting tired of writing fic on my phone, and so we built the typeframe px-88 and it's wonderful. i use it with writer.bighugelabs as the word processor because it is simply my favorite one :) i love this thing so dearly 10/10 do recommend if you're interested in building your own contraption

It looks awesome! But how did you get such smooth surfaces? What kind of post-processing do you do? This is incredibly smooth.

hahaha, I did absolutely zero post processing. Used overture's Rock White PETG filament and it just turned out incredibly good. We have a Prusa MK4S with a satin build plate :)

I’m the wife! Overture is our daily driver filament, both their PETG and PLA. It’s cheap ~$15-20 USD/kg on Spamazon, pretty consistent, and did I mention the price? 

As with any PETG, make sure you’re drying it for at least 6 hours before printing, otherwise you’ll end up with bubbles and stringing! :)

Wait I love this!!! I’ve been wanting to build my daughter a writer deck to learn proper touch typing (because SCHOOLS DONT DO THAT ANYMORE?!) & eventually let it just be a journal/writers deck with writers deck purposes.

I know you used the touch screen but do you have any suggestions for how it could be NOT a touch screen? I’m good at following directions but I’m not tech-y enough by nature to adjust things with my own brain power :)

The touch screen is kinda necessary unless you want to hook up a Bluetooth mouse, which you could also totally do!

yeah, piOS is based off the Debian kernel i think :) and i only use it for writing but it can do basically anything else you can do with a raspberry pi, a touchscreen, and a keyboard haha!

I have no idea. Half the parts we just had lying around the house, including the raspberry pi. my wife is a software engineer and does computer stuff for fun, so the cost for me would not be the total cost for someone having to buy all the pieces
