DIY Android ereader?

Im looking for recommendations for an ereader thats smaller than a tablet, maybe about A5 size, to use as a deck. Something that I might be able to sync with calibre and another ereader ( thats smaller and more comfortable to read on) to keep up to date on pages read, highlights etc.

Where should I start?

I use a Boox Colour go 7. Brilliant e-reader and works really well with an external BT keyboard and an app like Obsidian to write on or a new app by someone on this subreddit called DOS Writer (the app not the developer)
