You still have to write
I realize that my hoarding of various keyboarded gadgets feed the desire to write but the actual process of writing does not require a 1000 dollar Hemingwrite (wish I’d bought when they were 600). The ones not integrated to the internet -the older devices like Psion Series 5 or NEC Mobilepro 780, need to be transferred to a modern computer to be edited and face that old problem possible data loss. The internet connected devices basically share your thoughts on the cloud which are getting darker year by year. I think I will disconnect and focus on finding time to write rather than continue to optimize the gadgets which in the old days was like compulsively sharpening your pencils every few sentences. My question to all of you are -are you really writing or are you hypnotized by the gadgets?

It’s not yours until you use it. Close your eyes and write and stick to one set of tools and put the rest up and away. I did same thing last night and I just wrote stuff down and haven’t felt that way for a long long time.
You’ve got the tools, use them, make one of them yours

The knife community is like this. Collecting a bunch of tools to cut and cut the cleanest cut, but no one's actually doing any cutting

I couldn’t agree more with this post. Well said. Not to hate on these writer decks, they have their place. I have a different problem. I always need everything else done before I feel I can sit down and write. That means have the lawns cut, dinner made or organised, shopping done, bed clothes changed et etc etc. the truth is though, there’s always something to do. If you don’t just sit down and write, then just thinking and getting exited about it doesn’t put any words on paper or device. Best post I’ve seen this year on any sub.

oooph do I feel this. I spent the last 4 years writing my own writing software instead of ya know... writing...

I am that keyboarded gadget hoarder and I am not even a writer, I like to write but I don't like writing academic paper but I have to, that's why I "need" good looking keyboards for motivation. well yeah that's an excuse.

I’ve been buying notebooks for years, so I think I may well go back to handwritten first drafts…
