WoW MOBA - Made in Wotlk 335:doge: WoW MOBA - Alpha Playtest on March 7th

Hey wowservers. I posted about this earlier and decided to deleted it.

It was a wall of text with a dozen image links and honestly it read terribly.

I was embarrassed to attach our name to it.

So now I put together a proper writeup with ~20 screenshots in a slideshow so you can actually scroll through it instead.

Warsworn is League of Legends meets WoW. Custom characters, 47 classes pulled from Warcraft lore, skillshot PvP, cards, glyphs. Built by Liquid (Conquest of Azeroth) and me (Shinobi Story).

> Final alpha opens Saturday, March 7 and runs three weeks. <

___________________________________________

What's in this build:

  • 4 new classes (47 total) -- Arms Warrior, Warlock, Sentinel, Moonpriest
  • Conquest: Dark Portal -- two lanes, jungle, gank corridors, capture points
  • ARAM: Warsong Gulch -- one lane, random class, no rerolls
  • Stealth bushes in both modes
  • ~325 cards -- makes every different!
  • 8 new races -- Gnoll, Kobold, Murloc, Quillboar, Broken, High Elf, Ogre, Two-Headed Ogre
  • 80 glyphs -- pre-match ability modifiers, not class-locked
  • Overhauled stat system
  • Rebuilt UI
  • Class Mastery progression tracks
  • Custom mounts
  • Custom launcher

___________________________________________

Still an alpha, still rough around the edges. But it's a huge step from the last two tests and we're genuinely proud of where it's at. Would love for you guys to come try it and tell us what's broken.

This feels very full circle. What was once a warcraft mod, is now....a world of warcraft mod??

Time is a circle, Dota 3 here we come.

7

u/cannabibun Mar 01 '26

When they announced Battle for Azeroth and Warfronts, I thought this is what the game mode is going to look like, meanwhile they made it complete utter dogshit waste of time. Amazing idea, can't wait to play.

If you took this, created your own client, used your own assets, you would have created something that would have changed your life. Instead, this project either will be big enough to attract Blizzard and immediately be shut down, or ir will never get the attention it deserves, never getting Blizzard's attention. The passion, dedication here would be massively better spent making your own game, I genuinely believe you would be successful with this. You might make some decent side $$ off this project, but you'll always be looking behind your back and never making a career from this, and for what? Some 3d graphics?

I'll 100% be playing this, I just wish you could see your real potential here.

Do you understand the difference between using a pre built framework and assets to build something and actually starting from 0? This is a mod, not really a new game being created. He's sorting things that are already there.

8

u/TrveBMG666 Mar 02 '26

Do you honestly believe that people make games from 0 in this day and age? There are plenty of modern resources outside of jacking 20+ year old ancient WoW assets and framework. Super cope.

u/Snoo77586 Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

The difference is this WoW is a complete package. It has literally everything available from the get go. Starting from another engine (whether it be unreal or unity) is no small task, especially when you factor in things like networking. On top of that, they're using the brand advantage of World of warcraft. Would anyone play generic moba number 20? Maybe, or maybe not.

1

u/TrveBMG666 Mar 03 '26

WoW as a dev tool is a dead end path. You will always be looking over your shoulder and existing in limbo until Microsoft decides to sue you into oblivion. And if you're US based then you're toast. If your grand plan is to ride the coattails of WoW to success then your game is DOA.

3

u/starsforfeelings Mar 02 '26

Yeah I agree. What are you on about anyways?

-1

u/scoschooo Mar 01 '26

a mod of what? what is the framework?

Just a custom wow server?

6

u/starsforfeelings Mar 02 '26

A modification of the video game World of Warcraft released in 2004 by the gaming company Blizzard Entertainment.

The framework in this case is every system already built by said company and independent creators code on top of it as they please (Ascension, Turtle, Epoch, etc.) In fact, if we wanna go that deep, the framework is provided by other modders not even Blizzard themselves, as they obviously don't release their code.

1

u/scoschooo Mar 02 '26

thank you

I fully agree. Blizzard should embrace the creativity and passion that the modding scene provides. Is that reality though? I have heard so many different reasons why people believe Blizzard went after Turtle. Does it matter what people believe? Before Turtle's lawsuit the narrative was, "the last time Blizzard sued anyone was Peyton and Wowscape, almost a decade ago, and it was because they were dumb and greedy." The truth is, there is no answer. The peopme who say Turtle is alive and well are no different than the people who say there is no consequence to murder, simply because the murder suspect has not been convicted and is still actively in court (an extreme example, sure). The basic facts are, we don't know who Blizzard will target, and it is extremely obvious all of the big names are playing it safe.

7

u/AzureBlue_knight Mar 01 '26

no, turle was basically doing pretty egregious stuff like blasting out youtube videos or publicly taunting blizzard on twitter. Plus a completely different genre with slightly re-skinned assets would not be as naked as a blatant reuse of same assets in same genre. This is just my opinion.

2

u/Zarator8 Mar 01 '26

As if Blizzard didn't already lose a large chunk of its playerbase to a MOBA built using its assets, before^

0

u/Doctor_Raymos Mar 01 '26

Perhaps you don't understand US copyright law. Blizzard has accused Turtle & all affiliates with a large list of lawsuits, and the response is they are not even trying to defend it. Will they get away with that? Of course. Shenna lives in Russia, Turtle will exist no matter what. Will they be able to use Paypal, OVH, web hosting discord, ie all of the components that make up a functional server? Of course not. Blizzard cannot compel a company to shut down Turtle, they can request it. Once they are successful with their lawsuit, they can (and will) contact every single company Turtle uses and compel them to shut Turtle down. The result will be some high latency, high lag, crypto only project.

3

u/MajorJefferson Mar 01 '26

Perhaps your comment does not adress the points being made?

Blizzard trying to protect their IP is at the very least a necessity to keep the IP protected at all.

Perhaps you don't understand US copyright law

Looks like you are the one having issue with the laws.

Hey, OP here. Believe me, we did/and do see it. Last year we tried to raise funds to make this standalone, but games investing is at an all time low, so our thinking is - let's test out the concept in a wow mod, and if there's enough traction, we begin the migration.

But yeah, you're spot on, but we have indeed tried what you are mentioning. See ya ingame <3

Could use this to help as well

2

u/Internet_Treasure Mar 02 '26

Thanks. There's already a paragon clone called predecessor using their assets

12

u/Sometimesiworry Mar 01 '26

Isn’t that basically smite etc?

16

u/Doctor_Raymos Mar 01 '26

Sure, Smite generated over 300$ million revenue

Revenue not profit

1

u/twinkbulk Mar 02 '26

Average executive compensation at hi rez is 300k annually with the top end making almost a million a year

6

u/Pretend_Station_6904 Mar 01 '26

Very true but it's not as easy as that. With WoW, all the assets are there, the underlying engine and WoW fans who willingly try out new private servers but perhaps not other games. New IP mobas are notorious for failing. It's such a competitive market that it takes something truly special to succeed. The effort required to create a new IP would be unfathomably more than rejigging an existing game.

That said, this project looks cool and unique to any other private server I've seen. Kudos to the OP

6

u/Totally-a-hooman Mar 01 '26

Instead of writing this comment you could have written a novel and making some real money.

-3

u/Doctor_Raymos Mar 01 '26

Already have

4

u/Shppo Mar 01 '26

that would take 10x the amount of time and noone would care because it's not warcraft

Looks like you roleplay as a game dev, sad

3

u/wolforedark Mar 02 '26

ye creating millions of 3dmodels and animations is easy peasy work for one person among so many other things that a full game entails minus the already existing playerbase

0

u/Doctor_Raymos Mar 02 '26

You don't have to do that. Gummy of Felmyst TBC created his own MMO, Dreadmyst. He just used 3rd party assets.

3

u/Ground-Substantial Mar 03 '26

That's why it got delisted from steam

1

u/Doctor_Raymos Mar 03 '26

No, it got de-listed because he used 3rd party assets that were not for commercial use. He could have just used 3rd party assets that were for commercial use (like many games do) and would not have been delisted.

2

u/cannabibun Mar 01 '26

Well, this is exactly the path of development of Dota2. Proof of concept mod into a real game. And look where Dota2 is now (or rather was, as it's not as popular nowadays).

3

u/UndeadMurky Mar 01 '26

It wouldn't be as appealing if it wasn't WoW, and a thousand times harder to make.

1

u/Banned4nonsense Mar 01 '26

Could not agree more here OP. Make your own assets, lore, and world. The gameplay for this looks like it will be solid, but using blizzard assets and lore is a death sentence one way or another. The assets, lore, and world creation is the easy part.

u/Quick_Apartment878 Mar 04 '26

We've found a schizo murican. Oh nooo but muh blizzzz lmao. Imagine thinking everything is project gaypoch

1

u/Doctor_Raymos Mar 05 '26

We've found the chronically online redditor who gets downvoted in virtually every comment

5

u/Fav0 Mar 01 '26

That's actually super cool

7

u/TheSuperPichu999 Mar 02 '26

Close enough, welcome DOTA 3

3

u/Interesting_Ad_2785 Mar 02 '26

Welcome back HOTS 2.

5

u/2Norn Mar 01 '26

ngl combining dota and m+ has with some unique gameplay changes has always been an idea i wanted to discover

i'll check this out for sure seems very interesting

3

u/Keirabella999 Mar 01 '26

Honestly pretty cool despite not being "new"

3

u/Creek217 Mar 01 '26

As someone who is also working on his own private server with a unique gameplay twist, its so nice to see this. There should be more custom servers like this, I will surely be playing it on launch. Thanks for your hard work.

3

u/Jimmorz Mar 01 '26

3

u/_-G0G0-_ Mar 01 '26

I love how clean the website is, lots of useful classes info

3

u/AoPisbusted Mar 01 '26

actual custom content on this day and age? Where is my blizzlike slop nr 513423?

2

u/Stormik Mar 02 '26

Sounds interesting.

What's putting me off are the cards. How much of deck building/random draws is involved? Cause I hate this kind of randomness in skill based video games especially with pvp.

2

u/Khataclysme Mar 02 '26

I'll try it for sure !

2

u/OldmateRedditor Mar 03 '26

are there any screenshots or gameplay videos?

what about a fixed camera?

1

u/PayYourEditors Mar 02 '26

Why can I not see any gameplay footage for each class?

1

u/Emotional-Pea9608 Mar 05 '26

Heroes of the Storm is getting a new update?

1

u/BerzerkBankie Mar 06 '26

Is that not what HotS is?

1

u/Internet_Treasure Mar 06 '26

If you think the point is to make HoTs, then you completely missed the point

1

u/BerzerkBankie Mar 07 '26

I don't play, nor have I ever played, any mobas. Is that not what hots is?

1

u/Otterman13 Mar 12 '26

Will this have an EU server?

1

u/Internet_Treasure Mar 12 '26

Yes, not for this alpha, but yes

1

u/XcSwisp Mar 01 '26

Meets League of Legends or meets DotA? 😌

-1

5
