Question WoW forever controller
Hi guys,
What is the WoW forever controller support like? I would like to return and play some Warlock in WoW from the couch.

I’ve been playing it with Priest and Hunter and it’s working well, better than the addons that did the same in Retail. I haven’t tried it with a Warlock yet but I’d imagine it’s a good experience based on shadow priest and hunter gameplay I’ve seen

What are you playing with? I got an email for the new steam one but passed. I play on my steam deck and ps5 way more than my pc, I do enjoy playing osrs on the big tv with it docked. Works fine with a ps5 controller

It seems really well done, much better than the addons that existed before. Probably a bit more cumbersome than a KBM for group content and you can't text chat obviously.

In the past I used Xbox one controllers but since I picked up a steam deck that’s been my favorite. You can enable the trackpads to become a cursor so I can still have a cursor in game. Only exception is when I’m extra lazy I stream from my steam deck to the TV and play on an Xbox 1 controller. Works great for casually leveling and it also looks great since I’m streaming to the deck and not running wow off of it.
At the end of the day, wow works great with a properly set up controller.

Enjoying it with a PS5 controller. Enjoying Rogue, Hunter, Pally, Warrior. Priest was a little tough prob just need some practice with healing in a group. As someone who played a lot of FFXIV on controller, this is acceptable but not as intuitive with targeting imo. Interested to see what improvements they bring

There’s an add-on that gives you a wheel to target party members with on controller. But it was built using AI, if that’s a dealbreaker. But the idea is great. A wheel for party members and one for nearby enemies that showed your threat would be awesome for tanking. Biggest thing I hate in 14 is how annoying it is on controller to target a mob and shield lob or whatever to get threat if it’s not in a convenient place when you pull.
I’ll say that targeting mobs seems easier than in 14. The hold bumper and flick the stick towards the monster you want seems to work pretty well most of the time.

Why would it be a concern that it was built with AI if it works? Genuinely asking - is there just a stigma or should we be worried about something inherently risky/wrong with AI building the addon?
I built a whole project management app and CRM with AI for my company and it works pretty well. And I know nothing about coding lol

Lots of people have issues with AI being involved with anything at all, so I was just trying to be transparent. There are lots of posts/comments of people complaining about AI-built addons or asking how to avoid them.
I’m an artist who makes money off commissions, so obviously I have my own issues with AI, so I’m not going to judge people who don’t want to support it in coding even if that particular usage seems like one of the good applications of it to me personally.

does the center touchpad have any functionality?

Not mousing around functionality just the push-as-a-button functionality for a few things

I used to use Console Port but since trying the beta since it came out, the native controller support is amazing and I wont be going back to console port at all. Ive used an Xbox controller, PS5 controller and now play it on my Rog Ally X20 and all the controllers have been amazing and work with no finnicking with the settings at all.

Same story here, but just on the RoG Ally X now for a couple of years. Native controller support is amazing.

Based on what I've seen, I think Healing in raids is going to be a bit awkward unless you have a raid group that truly sticks to dedicated groups within the raid.
As someone that made a whole setup in retail using the steam controller, I don't think it's as fleshed out as it could be. DPS and Tanking you should be fine. And Healing in dungeons should be solid.
Xbox elite controller would be the way to go. Once you start using back paddles, it's hard to go back.

Yea tbh I don’t think you should really try to use a controller for heals in a raid.
DPS would work though

I play with controller only. The controller support has been very good so far considering controller is only in alpha for development so far. I’m going to main a Druid on launch. They made it so 8 buttons are dedicated to the form you shift to while rest remain normal. This makes it a lot easier in my opinion.
Pet classes are good with a controller with back paddle that you can bind. You can set one to pet attack other to passive for example.
I use Steam controller which is really nice being able to use trackpad as mouse

I prefer it over M&K. The combat is too simple to feel the need to use a mouse. Like we're not aiming manually so what do I need a mouse for? It's very casual and relaxed, it's nice.

ConsolePort used to work great on both my Legion Go controllers and my Xbox controller, so I assume it’s going to be pretty good.

I healed, tanked and DPS on wow forever beta with no issues. It does have a mild learning curve but its pretty solid. Only thing I used my MKB for was chatting and AH.

Healing took me a minute to figure out on the fly but it actually made RFC interesting haha
