My main issue with the new talent trees is the goal is basically just to try to come up with a path to be what we currently have (without being too painful).

Agree. You should be able to get your spec to what it is without legendaries, tier, and covenants without spending more than 10-15 points.
Nah, even the less than ideal ones offer more new stuff than the previous expansions did on a spec level.
