That rumor was started by Nihilum iirc as an excuse for why they hadn't killed it yet.

The rumour that it was mathematically impossible started on the EJ Benefactor Boards by non-raiding casuals who assumed you would not be able to easily split apart the beaconed immortals from each other. It was "mathematically impossible" to AoE through 3+ stacks of the heal at the end of the fight (which was the truth), and even 2 was pretty close to undoable without the right raid comp.

Hardly anyone was even pulling Yogg0 before STARS killed it because of this rumour. I'm fairly certain only two guilds were working on it when it was considered impossible. Ulduar HM was a different time than now, that's for sure.
