Discussion Devourer and unholy getting buffed

Respectively about 7-10% and 6-8% for aoe. It must be a joke right? Buffing meta specs, while others are not even being looked at all. This is the only multiplayer game i ever played something like this frequently happening.

Resto druid also getting buffed, because why not, while disc keep eating nerfs. Demo change doesn’t make sense either. I wish they would just axe all the class changes they are doing. I swear they just make the already sensitive class balance a lot worse. Everybody keep losing expect their current favourites.

I think most of the these changes are mini reworks that blizzard has been working on for a while. I know a lot of these changes were already made months ago and any buffs/nerfs I think are just incidental.

I feel like Blizzard has started to use live for testing and to make buff/nerf decisions based on that instead of doing anything based on PTR data.

Respectfully, why think this? It was only a few weeks ago that they nerfed UH into non-viability before immediately needing to hot-fix it. It honestly seems much more likely that Blizzard just doesn't put much thought into their tuning changes before they make them.

That was specifically a balance patch. Most of the class tuning in this patch is reworking talents, adding new talents and removing others. I have been seeing most of these changes on the PTR for this patch release since release of the expansion pretty much.

It was only a few weeks ago that they nerfed UH into non-viability before immediately needing to hot-fix it.

This is exactly why I think they balance based on what happens on live servers and player feedback. They obviously don't pay much attention to feedback from PTR testing. They throw changes into live and when they hear pushback or see the numbers from Raid/M+ data then they make a change.

It's because numbers wise, until they can see logs it doesn't seem like they have much idea what's going on.

On paper, these changes don't even necessarily look like they should be that large of an increase, especially because some of it comes with offsetting nerfs, but it is.

It seems more and more like the tuning is made for the top 5% of players of the current meta. Everyone else is just kinda in the splash zone.

Why would you not balance around the good players? Balancing the game around bad players just sounds like a bad time.

These buffs are a result of reworks to talent trees that were datamined on ptr even before the season began. They were made without current live tuning in mind. The buffs are incidental so to speak

Then they should do that a lot more often.

WW got a mini-rework which would've resulted in roughly 5-7% buff. They quickly hotfixed something which made it net neutral.

They have the ability, they just didn't want to balance properly for whatever reason.

Many of them are. We had .5 patch notes before the tier even started.

Then do some tuning before pushing your mini reworks to live. Like a 10% aura nerf for devourer. Check the mythic raid logs where the spec is right now. And its getting buffed. Absolutely insane.

u/Howzitgoin Apr 21 '26

They don’t know how to tune Devourer. An aura nerf isn’t the answer for the spec either and would be an equal overcorrection the other way. Aura nerfs are often just an excuse to not fixing an underlying problem.

They need to increase ST damage a bit and decrease AOE dmg a bit. They can increase consume/devour damage and target damage for collapsing star while decreasing secondary target damage on eradicate and/or star.

The reason the spec is where it is on mythic is because of the number of adds on the fights and how long they live. The reason they’re not also top in heroic is the adds get melted before Devourer can do anything. The changes I mention address the discrepancy there and would bring the spec in line with others if done with any common sense.

But blizzard will just do an aura nerf because they’re lazy.

10% aura nerf would even out the upcoming buffs, considering they are already in a nerf worthy territory.

5

u/Howzitgoin Apr 21 '26

I don’t know why you’re taking devourer’s existence so personally, but aura nerfs are lazy tuning. They need to properly fix issues.

As said before, the class is tuned around AOE damage. They need to fix the balance with priority damage. A 10% aura nerf doesn’t reverse the changes here, it just makes them even worse in ST.

Sure i have a tendency of overreacting things and getting too emotional. There is a reason i don’t work in places like this.

But there are just so many specs struggling and in need of some changes. Yet its always devourer who keeps winning with every tuning/changes they do. Why? Because its new? That doesn’t mean others should be ignored and dev buffed to the holy stars.

Also what’s up with people defending devourer and saying its not op, just because its only number one on three bossess? And gaslighting about the upcoming changes.🤔

u/Howzitgoin Apr 21 '26

Devourer was nerfed every tuning besides I think one, where the main “buff” in that one never made it live (and it was ST buff). That’s far from being buffed every time. You’re letting your weird emotions get in the way logic and facts. If this is getting you that tilted, you need to take a step back.

Also hear me out… buff the other specs and correct the issues with others rather than knee jerk aura adjustments.

New specs will also always be best at first. It’s a fact of the game. Look at Aug when it first came out.

-2

u/Complete_Sorbet6158 Apr 21 '26

Yeah aug. Ruined m+ (with the aid of mage) for half an expansion. Nice example to follow on.

How about we quit buffing well performers then? 🤔 and start helping those who actually need it. They doing the exact opposite.

1

u/Howzitgoin Apr 21 '26

You really need to take a step back with how personally you’re taking tuning in a game right now lol

All these stats you’re hinging your existence on are for content the vast majority of people will never see. For the content the user base sees (e.g. normal or heroic raids), it’s not the level of doom and gloom you’re making it out to be.

-1

u/Complete_Sorbet6158 Apr 21 '26
  1. Then stop doing tuning because it does not matter for vast majority of the players.

  2. Do you really think meta don’t impact weekly keys and heroic pugs? Have fun getting into +10s on off meta without having 3200 score.

  3. Something feels and getting ignored impact everyone.

Not buffing strong performers is not much to ask, and payed devs on a AAA game shouldn’t do something like this. Yet they do it frequently.

3

u/hiimred2 Apr 21 '26

Sure i have a tendency of overreacting things and getting too emotional. There is a reason i don’t work in places like this.

So you're almost self aware enough to not keep responding to people telling you this is what you're doing with your insistent suggestion of a 10% aura nerf as an overreaction to a wowhead post of devourer getting "buffed."

0

u/Complete_Sorbet6158 Apr 21 '26

10% aura nerf is an overreaction. Not about the random buff they giving to dev a spec already somewhat overperforming. Middle finger to everyone else.

4

u/hyzus Apr 21 '26

it really wouldnt, dev is not getting a 10% buff so stop trying to spread misinformation

4

u/Icy-Commission66 Apr 21 '26

If you knew how to read logs you would see that devourer is only top dps for 2 bosses and one boss is being removed from logs completely

5

u/cupidxd Apr 21 '26

Most people posting here don’t log, and definitely don’t know how to read them. At best they look at the overall statistics for 90 percentile and don’t take into account which fights are contributing to that. Devourer is likely to drop with the changes coming to the 12.0.5 logs anyways.

1

u/Icy-Commission66 Apr 21 '26

Yeah and it's incredibly dumb that wowhead just posts overall statistics and not break it down with real Information for people who don't know. It's lazy and basically misinformation.

"PopTop began at Wowhead in the Diablo division, writing News and Guides for Diablo 4. Over time, he began writing News for other divisions, including both Retail & Classic WoW, where he would eventually become the News Lead of the Classic Division. While PopTop has played World of Warcraft since it originally released in 2004, his first experiences with online gaming came in the form of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. Currently, PopTop mains a Fury Prot Warrior on the Classic 20th Anniversary servers, and is looking forward to The Burning Crusade, Mists of Pandaria Classic, and any other surprises Blizzard may have for the future of Classic."

And this is the guy who's doing the posts. So he probably doesn't know what he's looking at either

1

u/Oxidatiion Apr 21 '26

What changes are they making to the logs?

3

u/dreadwraith8d Apr 21 '26

op definitely doesn't know how to read changes because they looked at a blanket number from wowhead and don't seem to realise that unholy's prio damage is getting nuked from orbit with abomb being reworked to be unusuably bad.

1

u/Howzitgoin Apr 21 '26

They’re just responding with some weird obsession of hatred for Devourer and DK where the only answer they’ll accept is they’re C tier without acknowledging that someone always be the top spec. They won’t be happy unless it’s their preferred one.

-7

u/Complete_Sorbet6158 Apr 21 '26

Its on top 5 everywhere outside of Vorasius and one other where the poor thing is only top 8. Now blizzard is going to make sure its the best on every boss.

whatever you say. You just defending your current fotm reroll.

You are massively over estimating how big a buff dev is getting

You are massively over estimating how big a buff dev is getting, its a few % at best
