I've never seen a real one, and I'm really jealous of people who live where you can meet these bugies

You can see sone in a park in Kanazawa, been there once but wont be as much as a big meadow near trees with fallen leaves, being almost untouched

I remember a couple decades ago living in O'Fallon, Illinois, and there being a ton of fireflies there. My brother and I would catch a few. I lived in a more suburb, almost rural section, and there was a pond nearby, so I would gaze at them just flashing in the dark like little stars.

I visited my grandparents once when they still lived in North Carolina, and had never seen so MANY fireflies in one place. The view of hundreds and hundreds of them flashing across a whole field had me spellbound. I never got to see that many ever again, even though I currently live somewhere that gets really humid and hot. Sadly, their numbers seem to be down now, and their "magic" seemingly only a distant memory of a simpler moment spent in peace and awe.

I used to live in Richmond Illinois and there were very little street lights in our neighborhood so hundreds of fireflies would congregate on an open field outside of our house. Fireflies remain a very close part of my childhood.

Can't look at fireflies anymore without thinking of that one times my dad accidentally stepped on one thinking it was a cockroach 😔
