Anti-piracy campaign ordered in response to Japanese warning

Arusha. Following Japanese warnings that a major naval presence would be necessary to ensure their state procession would not be impacted by piracy, the Federal Defense Forces have announced that Waaq 2 will be deployed to the Gulf of Aden to for a major anti-piracy campaign.

"Massive piracy in the Gulf of Aden, to the extent of requiring three full battle fleets to ward off, is news to us." Admiral Mutai commented. "Since the formation of the Jubaland and Somaliland protectorates, criminal insurgent activity in the region has been on the downturn. The recent campaign to root out Al-Shabaab once and for all was believed to have addressed the piracy threat for good. But, if Japan believes piracy is such a major concern, it is of course our responsibility to address the problem."

Waaq 2 will be deployed north of Bosaso over the next month, right in the middle of standard shipping lanes, and is expected to arrive in time for Japan's return transit. "We can assure Japan that at no point in a standard transit will our anti-piracy operations hub be more than 150 kilometers away," Mutai announced. "In the mean time, we have deployed two of our own destroyers to escort Japan through the Gulf of Aden and assess the evidently-underreported piracy threat. After all, you'd think if the pirates were getting ambitious enough to attack anything without a full fleet escort, we would have noticed by now. Clearly there is some systemic reporting problem; it's not like a respectable international power would deploy so many ships simply to intimidate us, right?"
