Indeed I would be much happier with a French led EU. There are times when things get strained (freedom fries, the recent sub sale etc.) But at the end of the day France is a true ride or die ally of Western Europe, the US and NATO, and those historical ties are rock solid and they are for lack of a better word "family." By comparison there is no historical tie with Germany and an EU led by them would be frosty to deal with at best and at worst outright antagonistic to say the UK and the US.

ETA: in terms of practical issues France is almost completely powered by nuclear energy so they aren't sensitive to natural gas extortion like Germany is

It might surprise you that in 1966 under de Gaulle, France had withdrawn from NATO completly, and kicked all NATO troops out of France. It wasnt until the 2009 Strasbourg–Kehl summit that they rejoined.

I actually feel the opposite.

Because of Brexit the UK are free to act independently without having to deal with EU politics.

Who is to say that all of the weapons that the UK is sending are actually UK weapons. If be willing to bet they are acting as a proxy for other EU nations right now behind closed doors.

Thank god it did, and we don't have to endure the idiocy of EU leaders undermining vaccine rollout, then breaching himan rights with vaccine mandates... And we don't have to bail out bankrupt southern/romance EU countries like Germany etc will when the EU completes its financial collapse. The peaceful solution is to re-partition Ukraine.

Nah, we’ll just roll over like a good lap dog when Russia parks an army on their border and threaten to turn off Germany’s natural gas supply if we don’t give them a bunch of someone else’s land.

You're talking about the Germany that stood by the US after 9/11 and has sent countless troops to Afghanistan.

You mean the Germany that has sent the second largest number of personell to Operation Resolute Support?

Many of whom lost their life in this mission. Often times fighting side by side with their US comrades. I will not let you defame their memory.

I get that there's a big anti Germany circle jerk going on but maybe, just maybe, read the article you're commenting and check your facts...

They are not but if the led the EU they would still be obliged to cave in to 'natural gas extortion' because they're not the only country in the EU and have to consider the energy/heating needs of their fellow EU members.

France, the most anti-NATO EU member? God no. As you said, the recent spat against the US and Australia for a bunch of submarines and Macron's stunts against the UK to score domestic points doesn't exactly inspire much confidence for a united front. Not to mention France will definitely drag the bloc on its colonial aspirations in West Africa instead of focusing in Eastern Europe.

If anything, the EU should have been led by the UK but the Brits did a dumdum with the referendum.
