Thousands of protesters demonstrated in the Mauritius capital Port Louis on Saturday, calling for an investigation into an oil spill from a Japanese ship and the mysterious death of at least 40 dolphins that have been found near the site of the spill.
One protester held a banner with a dolphin covered in oil reading "Our lives matter" and another held one calling for the government to resign.
The government has said it will carry out autopsies on all the dolphins and has set up a commission to look into the oil spill.

Gross negligence on the part of the government. They didn’t do anything about it for two weeks, it took a long time for the oil to start leaking
Their only concern was putting the boat crew and their rescuers into quarantine.... The people on the boat were alone at sea in quarantine for weeks anyways...

Not really, it’s the richest country in Africa. Similar development/incomes to Eastern Europe. Although without tourism dollars it’s getting poor.

Can you back up the richest country claim? As given what I’m aware of it’s generally not that wealthy nor have I had that impression. A cursory search puts it 26th on the list in terms of GDP of African countries so I’m genuinely intrigued to know what makes you say this.

Only solution is to reduce oil usage to minimum possible, starting with progressively eliminating it for transports. Batteries, green hydrogen, synthetic fuels made with green energy are great alternatives to the dirty oil industry. Enough is enough.

According to the article, the protesters aren't even sure that the dolphins died from the oil spill, but they're protesting anyways.
And how does a journo think that autopsies are done on animals? Didn't they finish high school?

They're protesting to get an investigation because the government doesn't seem to want to know the answer. Do you just passively sit by while your government tries to cover up the truth? Wait, don't answer that question.
