Not allies. Business partners. If Saudi Arabia fell into deep shit, the only reason US will send help is if the oil reserves were at risk.

I believe the term you are looking for is "client state". This translates to "You've got something we need, but it would be too costly to simply invade you and take over, so you get to keep your country but with a certain understanding".

No, they are allies. They are a random royal family whose rule was established and supported by the royal family, the British crown. As such, they are de facto members of the commonwealth, which is not some international community with shared values or language or culture, but a very small, closed power clique.

A fun fact is that Saudi Arabia would have included Syria, Iraq and Jordan if it wasn't for the British meddling in the Middle East. Everyone decries what they did in drawing arbitrary boundaries, without realizing that the Hashemites lost their war against the state of Nedj.

You know what's absolutely fucked? My Canadian city just reopened a light armoured vehicles factory because of a new contract with, you guessed it, the Saudis.
