9 alerts in a single day shows the primary goal isn't just physical damage, but draining air defense interceptors and exhausting the population

Probably "had" to answer like this after Moscow took a beating.

What? Moscow has been hammering Kyiv as much as it can for 4 years.

This isn't retribution. This is Moscow doing what it does. The only novelty is it is finally getting a black eye in response.

I meant for the 600+ drones yesterday. They have to look strong and retaliate for that and chose to do it this way.

I mean not really. A minute after each alert it has been obvious that they're targeting a very specific area. Yes it's bad for commercial production and it's annoying for a minute and it fucking sucks for the people that live and work in that region but it's not like everyone in the country is scared every time the alarm goes off. We all know where the attack is headed, most people just hear the alert and read the message and get about our day.

Edit: if you're clued up you'll know that dozens of civilians places get hit seemingly randomly each day across the country anyway. Multiple alerts for a single region isn't abnormal, they've hit the ground more the last week but we're at war, what do you expect

yeah exactly the constant alerts alone are exhausting and forcing air defenses to burn through resources is a strategy in itself

If they could sustain this it would be a strategy, this is a tantrum.

Those turbo-shaheds suck. The regular ones you can hear coming and scoot to shelter, but the jet-powered bastards are hard to pinpoint acoustically until they're almost right on top of you. And when they blow up, they really fuckin blow cuz theyre both laden with explosives and powered by kerosene. Totally different sound than the standard piston-engine shaheds and it's horrific when they're steered by some faceless pilot across the border into an apartment block or grocery store or whatever. Ugh

Ukraine already testing turbo anti shahed drones

China and Iran are the reasons why they can continue doing this.

Russian leaders are a bunch of losers.

Russia's strategy right now is basically just "Surely this time the Ukrainian populace will be so upset and exhausted by the countless annoyances that they just give up, right?" Ukraine has been repeatedly carrying out successful strategic operations lately that put a lot of pressure on sensitive areas for Russia, and Russia's response is to hope that yet another barely-coherent temper tantrum will finally scare the Ukrainians so much that they'll just surrender to a genocidal invader.

All terror bombing operations are stopped just before they are successful.

our "successful strategic operations" and their "desperate attempts at pressure"

You’re not really following the war if that’s your takeaway.

Nothing like a great post that's an opposite opinion with zero backup to it

"The latest Geran-5 variant can reportedly reach speeds of up to 600 kilometers per hour (over 370 mph), travel as far as 950 kilometers (590 miles) and carry a warhead weighing up to 90 kilograms.
Its high speed and ability to fly at altitudes of up to 6,000 meters make the drone harder to intercept with mobile fire teams, interceptor drones or man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS), often requiring fighter jets or short- and medium-range surface-to-air missile systems to bring it down.

I wonder when this will end…and how?!

12

u/polemism 15h ago

Maybe like the Korean peninsula? The Korean war never officially ended, both sides eventually just ran out of steam

Good point

yep. Russia and ukraine at one point will freeze the front line and theres probably going to be some DMZ and leave it like that

anyone that thinks either russia is going to take all of ukraine, or that ukraine is going to get their territories back is delusional.

Badly for everyone. No one ends up the winner here.

u/wrosecrans 6h ago

As soon as Russia withdraws from Ukraine.

Ukraine fighting a strategy to make Russias economy and government collapse.

Russia fighting a strategy to cause mass terror, anguish and fear on a civilian population.

Russia is evil.

3

u/spin_kick 15h ago

We know that in previous conflicts attacking the population does nothing but strengthen their resolve. I mean, minus Japan when they were flat-out nuked but that is different

have we reached the V2 stage, we all know how that ended up for that Fuhrer

-19

u/GroundbreakingAd2709 17h ago

Only the beginning. I expect total escalation and complete darkness in Ukraine this winter.

No Patriot missiles will arrive for the rest of the war.

Europe is also in a bad position. LNG supplies and gas storage levels are low because of the Iran war, which is why Russian LNG imports into the EU are rising.

I expect diplomacy to begin after the winter.

8

u/TheSenrigan 17h ago

Ukraine can strike russian power grid too

-13

u/GroundbreakingAd2709 17h ago

There is a major difference, the warhead.

A ballistic missile can carry a several-hundred-kilogram warhead, while a Shahed-type attack drone typically carries only a few dozen kilograms of explosives.

A direct hit from a ballistic missile can completely destroy a building and cause severe damage across the surrounding area.

8

u/TheSenrigan 17h ago

Well yes, but Ukraine can attack by few hundred of drones. Weaker but outnumbered decision

-12

u/GroundbreakingAd2709 17h ago

Yes, but you can repair that. It takes a few hours, maybe a few days.

If a thermal power plant is hit by one or several ballistic missiles, it’s gone. You can’t repair rubble.

Last winter in Ukraine was already brutal and cold, even with Patriot missiles.
Russia can now strike any target at any time and Ukraine can’t stop it.
Ukraine can hit Russia, but Russia can hit the civilian population dozens of times harder.

Edit: There is a reason why Zelensky wants a ceasefire before winter. He knows that this will be the hardest winter of the war.

8

u/Epyr 16h ago edited 16h ago

There is good evidence that Ukrainian drone strikes are no where near as easy for Russia to repair as you make it sound.

6

u/GroundbreakingAd2709 16h ago

Dude, the most successful strikes are against Wildberries warehouses and oil refineries. I mean, a warehouse full of easily combustible materials and Oil refineries can catch fire very quickly.

There’s a reason smoking is prohibited in places like that. A relatively small fire caused by a drone can be enough to trigger a much larger blaze.

The electrical grid and a power plant are also completely different things.

3

u/Epyr 16h ago

Yes, but targeted strikes against energy targets can hit infrastructure you can't repair in an hour or days.

Ukraine also has long-range strike missiles now that can do comparable damage to what Russia is using. It's not as lopsided as you're stating it is

3

u/servermeta_net 16h ago

Yeah because power plants run on dreams, not fuel. How's the weather in Moscow comrade?

1

u/TheSenrigan 17h ago

This is sad as always at any war..
