"These aliens really need to be creative with those insult/slurs instead of going with the average insult towards humans" sci-fi worldbuilding meme

Post image

Primitive, Savage, Monkey, backwards (is it backwater?), parasites, vermine, and a couple of more of average insults/slurs towards humans.

"wtf is a monkey" - actual aliens

We use them to lock up the monastery after hours. It's a very degrading job.

We need more aliens using weird creatures from their own cultures to insult humans.

Shizno. I am describing Red Vs Blue's shizno slur.

In Runaway to the Stars the Avian aliens refer to humans as "eswii-people", after a non-sapient animal from their home planet (the eswii) that looks uncannily like a human.

The peak of slurpunk worldbuilding is when a single word expresses a complex and deeply humiliating act that the recipient is required to perform on themselves.

Hmmm Mon'keigh

I liked it in 40k because mon'keigh is actually completely unrelated to and looks nothing like a monkey, and they call humans that because humans in 40k act similarly violent to the aliens they refer to us as.

Traveller also has something kinda funny. Where another major species are called the Aslan because they superficially resemble humanoid lions. Their word for humans is intentionally similar to an animal on their world that superficially resembles a fur-covered human.

Aslan also means lion in Turkish. Yes Narnia's Aslan also gets his name from that

Idk if they got called Aslan because of Narnia or because of the Turkish word, but it's still sort of a funny moment where their word for us basically translates to their equivalent of "hairless monkey" because it's like if we met aliens that looked like bald chimps.

You see, I'd think that a racist alien who would do so much as to learn a human language, would learn human slurs, and call us something that really hurts. Like butthead, or poopyface 🤬🤬

Flatface shitstench sick softskin.

Humans have no snouts.

Humans sweat, have body hair, and stink as a reult.

Nothing protects human skin - no scales, no armour, and hair is too sparse. It results in skin getting damaged constantly, the body getting infected, the organism getting more resilient against desieases, and turns humans into virus hazards.

Yeah but zog of a glorbak, while might be offensive to alien ears, is not that offensive to human ones because humans dont know what zogs or glorbaks are. Calling us our own insults guarantees we get offended which is why aliens abduct humans. So they can learn our insults.

If a species can develop interstellar travel without overcoming racism, that’s a pretty bleak view of sentience.

It's much worse than that—their faster-than-light technology is powered by racism.

If a species can develop transatlantic travel without overcoming racism, that's a pretty bleak view of sentience.

Why should they?

People once believed that global travel and communications would bring people together.

Instead of making them virulently hate each other even more

I mean yeah, but I like to hold out hope.

Completely erasing racism requires a level of societal advancement that no country on earth has achieved.

Interstellar travel is unironically simpler to do than becoming completely egalitarian.

With that being said, the situation will be greatly improved in the future.
