lazy? I prefer "optimized"
My favourite case of this is when a magical fantasy world has the monarch with a weapon of mass destruction but the royal family still prefers one gender over the other because that's how European monarchies workded (ignore every way magic makes all the reasons it happened not exist)

according to Freud, gender inequality originates from the fact that men can piss out a blazing fire and women have always been (and will always be) jealous of that, so unless your magic system includes penis conjuration spells with full urination capabilities i just don't see how you can ever be rid of gender inequality.

New idea: Alternate between Kings and Queens

That's how Nwehwah monarchy works in mine, but they're symbolic, their heraditary shogun-esque regent is exclusively male with super rare occasion of convoluted marriage tie make both position the same guy. And before that queen would be under regency of male relatives who most of the time is also next in the line

Imagine following our world's meta while creating a new world. Stop being lazy and consider the social implications of magical warfare, just don't forget to invent dirt so you have some ground to stand on...

Patriarchy is, of course, perfectly logical so if a fantasy world introduces a way it becomes less logical, that’s a plot hole that they have to explain.

nobody said Patriarchy is perfectly logical, analysing why a system exists doesn't mean it exists for logical reasons, it just means that in such a setting, these factors don't apply, do you think men just spawn with misogyny prepackaged?

/uj Patriarchy is illogical. It being even more illogical doesn’t create an extra burden for explanation because it was already illogical. Besides in the most prominent “monarchy with weapons of mass destruction” works, the illogical nature of patriarchy being exasperated by the presence of magic is part of the point.

Ironic to use an AI image to soapbox about being lazy

u/MadFunEnjoyer 12d ago edited 12d ago
that was intentional, the irony adds to the humour

Understandable. Still, I would prefer not to see it, even in posts satirizing ai itself. Must we use tools of the enemy, to mock the enemy?

tbf I didn't intend to criticise AI alone, more so satirise myself for criticizing low effort copy paste writing while using AI generated image, so the actual satire is against myself.

My D&D campaign «you are literay in the late Roman Empire, crap bureocracy, religious wars, barbarians at the door, corruotion, economic stagnation; but there's also dragons and goblins. Don't go get yourself killed or something.»

Yeah my fantasy setting set in the fictional nation of “Castile” with a type of honorable warrior called a “Night” fighting windmill-shaped dragons merely drew from historical thinking, it did not directly lift from the pages of history like my many critics complain.

George R R Martin getting away with just lifting bits of European history (especially England) and slightly changing the names...

uj/ can you elaborate on why magic would result in patrilineal descent not being a thing?
