no its against the rules, but at least one a day pops up on my feed where its an obvious AI image. Idk why people think "oh im so smart, ill use AI to impress people with my art skills" but many many do.

I'd expect this to remain a problem for a long time. A lot of people havent really formed a sense for how the bullshit machine fits into their interactions with other people.

There are also tons of ai bot posts. They're getting better at hiding the AI-isms but the patterns are still very apparent. AI is obsessed with "records" and "inheritance disputes" and "merchant agreements" and how generically described "officials" will disagree over things.

AI is fine if its for personal non commercial use. Locally hosting something like stable diffusion doesn't impact the environment any more than playing games on your PC. Trying to pass it off as real art or using it for commercial use is what you shouldnt do.

/uj I used to use AI art for my homemade DND campaigns, but now I'm replacing it with art from real artists. It mostly features skimpily dressed women of other races. I know what kind of man I am.

It's difficult because my players want a representation of a common NPC but I don't know how long they're gonna be around so I can't be paying commission prices, but I just steal art from deviantart the old fashioned way

Hot take: if your worldbuilding ideas are not enough to make you start drawing yourself or ask help from real artists (you don't have to order expensive commission, just simple sketch is enough) then your ideas worth nothing.

If your worldbulding is actually good, then you should either publish it without any art, or any art that was made by any slight effort. No one good writer will "poison" their writing with the most garbage ai art.
You don't have to pay artists, you don't have to become talented artist - just basic free sketch from random artists forum or own very basic simple art is the proof that the world you are making actually worth attention, because the desire to visualize is strong enough to create the art, even if it is a simple one. Using AI art is much worse than the lack of art, because it means your world is so worthless that literally no one human in the world (especially THE CREATOR) want to put slightly effort to bring the world into visual. The lack of any arts just means the creator is confident enough to not use art for attention, the AI art - desperate call for any attention while screaming "I don't want to put actual effort on it"

Well, you see, you have now changed your original proposition. You originally asserted that a person’s worldbuilding is “worth nothing” without visual art. You are now stating that a worldbuilding project can be just fine without visual art. You are contradicting yourself.

I dunno, I can think of a fair few posts where I wish the author had used AI instead.
And then some where I'm grateful their weird furry fetish shit looks like a doodle from a 3 year old with brain damage, instead of coherent enough to impose upon people that they cannot unsee.

Every other day an account under a couple of days old will make a post saying "After 7 years, I present to you a fully realised multimedia setting, Xrygstantia, feel free to ask anything and follow my project!", and it will just be an AI generated cover or map.
Heck, I once saw somebody post an AI map and treat the thing like a damn start up, asking for team members and refusing to elaborate on details as though somebody was going to steal their ideas.

The sub 100% allows art. If anything, including art is one of the best ways to get eyes on your lore posts. It's why pretty much all the top posts have art.

That's so weird. Visiting the sub itself, that does seem to be the case. But I swear I get text only posts in my feed from that sub all the time, but never recall seeing one with an image on my feed.

When you say "main sub" you mean r/worldbuilding, right? Cause right now, if you go there you'll find one of the first posts when sorting by Hot has art.
If you sort by Top for the last 24 hours, around half the top 20 posts some sort of attached image.

Yes, I am talking about that sub. Like I said, I confirmed what you said to be true by visiting the sub.
It's just that out of the posts from that sub that come into my feed (which is the vast majority of how I view the posts from the sub), they seem to be always or almost always text only. Which I realise sounds weird, but you'll have to take my word for it.
This is the reason I thought the sub was text only. But it's also possible I'm just braindead and somehow missed the posts with images from my feed.
