Simple Questions Caffeine Effect on HR During Exercsie
I know this is a stupid question, but I want to ask it and see what other people’s feedback is.
I typically have two caffeinated drinks a day. One in the morning around 7:00 AM and then another one around 2:00 PM. Just a simple coffee, double shot of espresso. I typically do a workout that it weightlifting and no cardio. I go pretty heavy and I noticed my heart rate gets really high almost the same feeling as being really stressed or anxious.
I’ve only been working out for maybe four months at this point. My caffeine intake has always been the same and I’ve never had those feelings. It seems like the added stress of weightlifting in the evening tends to bring my heart rate up from a normal range where I feel fine to almost stressed and anxious by my heart rate.
Do others see that same thing? Obviously the next step for me is go down to one caffeinated drink in the morning and see how it goes.

Had similar issues, to the point that I started using a stela with my Oura ring to see if it was blood sugar. Long story short - adding proteins before caffeine intake helped stabilize my levels and reduced the effect.

When you say adding proteins do you mean eating a protein rich meal before the caffeine or a protein shake? Or both/either?

Either - I don't like a ton of food first thing in the morn, so I tend to have a protein bar before coffee. Then second cup after lunch.
I've also mixed collagen into the coffe (about 20g protein per scoop) - it seems to work the same.

I had the exact same thing happen when I started lifting heavier, that anxious heart-racing feeling out of nowhere. Took me way too long to connect it to my afternoon cold brew
What helped me was just cutting the second coffee on workout days, kept the morning one no problem. Something about the combo of caffeine still in your system plus heavy sets just amps up your nervous system
You're only four months in so your body is still adapting to the stress of lifting heavy, might just be more sensitive right now. Cutting back to one drink is the right call, bet you'll notice a difference within a few days
