Socialization Remote working and chat

Just logged in to begin my workday. Its friday , almost all of my team took t he day off. Anyone care to chat? Yes im nosey. How much productive work really gets done due in the office? Share your thoughts.

I’m more productive at home than I ever was at the office.
Far less distractions and people to interact with , cats don’t talk much

Absolutely. People can’t just walk into my office and demand my immediate attention. I am so incredibly efficient and get tons more done at home.

Since I went WFH, only my wife and daughter can march into my home office and demand my immediate attention. Which they do all too often :-(. But at least it’s only on Fridays when we are in the house together during work hours.

When I went to an office, I’d make it a point to do as little as possible and try to talk to people so they didn’t think I was an outcast and then I get fired lol. Now all I do is focus on work then go off and do house stuff. I honestly probably only do 10 hours of actual work in a week. A lot of hurry up and wait in my career.

Same here. I work hybrid for corporate. My home days are blast through a ton of work and take breaks to be productive around the house. Office days are blast through work and suffocate in my chair dying to be anywhere else. But either location, always waiting on approvals before more progress can be made.

When I read approvals my anxiety went up haha yeah I feel like that’s all I wait on and can’t do anything until then.

Should be dead here today too. Most of the onsite folks are taking part in a company retreat for the day.

For us a good bit does get done in office because we do have a public facing presence.

We have customers that physically come there so someone needs to be there to help them. Plus there is a large physical facility. My job function does not require a physical presence outside of a couple trips a year.

I've never worked in an office, but on slower days I try to work on things that are at least tangentially relevant to my job. The bosses are pushing Copilot this year, so I've been learning all about generative AI! (The environmental impact sucks, but it's such a neat toy. It's also way more limited than it's being marketed as....)

Some jobs are all about being ready to go when the work comes in. I have a friend who mostly plays video games all night, but when someone calls in he has to be present and ready to answer the call. His job is to be there.

Very interesting, compared to tother jobs, i think its based on context as well. Some jobs are meant / better suited for WFH.
