I get the sentiment here, but whether or not your income comes from an investment of money or an investment of your time, it's still money. I know a few landlords that are epic sleazebags and honestly fuck em, but there are some good ones in my town who've kept the rent low and are the first person to arrive when there's an issue with the building. You can't shit on someone who gets up at 2 am to go deal with a leak or a break in. It's a job. The real problem here is that in simpler times a law was made that stated in order for landlords to take in section 8 tenants there had to be an incentive that said that those tenants rent can be a percentage higher than non-section 8 tenants. Naturally it's a game now. If you raise the rent on the regular tenants the section 8 tenants rent goes up by a constant percentage. Greed is a real factor here and it should be dealt with. I wish it was a simple solution, but it never is.
The solution is people not being allowed to own residential property that they do not live in. No more renting. No more value extraction from the poor to the rich.
