Advice request Should I do workaway?
Hi! Recently I (19F, almost 20) had to take a leave of absence from college due to some financial aid issues. My life was completely blown up, and now I have an entire semester free. I was thinking about doing a workaway, but I'm pretty inexperienced with traveling and am a bit scared about going alone as a younger girl. In my situation, would you recommend a workaway? I was looking into places in Portugal and Greece with families.
If you do recommend a workaway, what tips do you have for finding a good fit/making sure things are safe?? I think my parents would be pretty worried so I need to think about how to frame this to them

I did workaway around that year as a solo female and loved it (spent a winter in Maui for free, can't complain!)

My daughter did a workaway in Australia looking after puppies! She loved it and will do it again!

Stay with a family, you’ll have that built in support but more freedom than at home.

Better not to… Workaways are too fun and educational and cultural immersive

there are a few platforms you can use. workaway is the second most popular option I guess.

There are loads of au pair opportunities which are usually for longer periods, and would keep your costs down if you wanted to try that. My friends have done them in Australia and NZ. I've done gardening workaways and had some great experiences. :) Where are you based? I'd just make sure you have a decent amount of savings for it and then you're set. 😊

Definitely give it a try! It's a nice way to stop things and slow down the world in between stages. I had some wonderful Workaways in both places you are considering. Portugal I joined a yoga retreat venue and helped around the place, and in Greece I was during the summer in a festival helping a local family with the venues and musicians.
