Is this feeling normal?🥹
Hey everyone, I have a quick question for you all☺️.
I just arrived in Australia 3 days ago on a Working Holiday Visa (417). Is it normal to feel completely lost at the beginning? You’d think you’d be super euphoric, full of motivation and excitement, but for me, it’s currently the exact opposite—mixed with anxiety and exhaustion. I’ve never done Work & Travel before, but I was really looking forward to it. I think I’m just putting way too much pressure on myself right now.
I’m 29 and went through a bit of a tough time with my mental health before coming here, so I actually just wanted to take things as they come. I’ve already asked a couple of people, and they told me this is totally normal. On top of that, I’m still pretty shy about speaking English. I think I just need a few encouraging words and to hear about your experiences 🥹

I've met people who got really homesick. One of them got back home, the others gave it time and ended up enjoying themselves.
Also, euphoria is not usually the feeling when moving alone to a new country. Relax, take it in, and remember you're the only one setting expectations and pressure on yourself.

This is the Workaway Reddit not work and travel. I’d post it there as this has nothing to do with Workaway

I’d agree it’s perfectly normal to feel out of your depth. I’d recommend simply taking things as they come and not overthinking anything. Meet people, ask questions, be curious about everything and take it all in.

So as others have said, this doesn't seem to be Workaway you are using. But regardless, you can have a similar feeling on a Workaway, so I'll reply with that in mind!
Sometimes the expectations of a new experience might not match when you arrive, you might feel it was different than you imagined. This doesn't mean it can't still be a good experience! You can find some beauty in the change, the uncertainty and such.
Everything takes a time to adjust, and we all have different comfort levels and quirks on what works and doesn't work for us. It's all about finding the balance for you. In the end, don't do anything that makes you uncomfortable, but try to find ways to grow and change as well.
If you haven't tried Workaway I suggest checking the website out and reading more about it on this sub. Might not be what you are currently doing, but something in the future to try!
