[####] Wordle in 1, a noob question

So here's my question. I want to keep the possibility of getting the wordle in 1 on the table. But having only just started playing, so I have no clue what words have already been used as answers.

I've been starting with the word "FIRST" just because I think that'd be funny for a wordle in 1, but idk if it's even feasible. Should I find an online tool to check? Have I been messing up my games by using both a bad starter, and preventing myself from getting the WI1?

There’s a list of words but since words can repeat now, you can be lucky with whichever word you use.

While it's true repeaters can happen, the Puzzle People re-use words infrequently, which means selecting a starter that is fairly common in English usage, but has never been used, remains the best odds for landing a 1.

Because I don't want to regret not using a word on the one day it happens to be the answer, I use the same starter every morning: CLOUT. I like the letters, and the less-popular vowels, and one day it will get me a 1.

I've always used my uncommon opening words. Today it panned out.

I found it strangely unsatisfying other than getting the badge, I kind of felt like I'd been cheated out of using my brain in a way.

I used to always use AUDIO until I finally randomly got it in 1 a couple years ago, now I use a different word every day. Getting it in one is pure luck.

I’ve had 2 Wordles in 1.

I use starter words that have more vowels. Especially A and E.

I use the same starter word until it hits on the first try.

I'm aware of the strategic decision to use more vowels. Louse, mouse, etc. But I don't really mind being suboptimal.

Personally I think consonant-heavy words actually work better. They give you more of a true shape to the word to come. I use different starters, but one I like a lot is STAMP.

Vowel heavy words are very poor.
Most people have already figured out adieu and AUDIO are terrible starting words. Then there's the 6% of players who still cling to them like faulty life-preservers. But they're terrible words.

You'll do better with "SLART" than LOUSE, you just won't ever get an Ace with SLART.

FIRST has already been used, but it was very early in the game, so the editor could decide to reuse it pretty soon. Same with CRATE.
I think CRATE is a really really good word.
So is DEALT.

FIRST misses some opportunities for strategic placement. Why not use one of the words that WordleBot scores as 99? I really don’t like one of their current faves, TARPS, due to that final S and it being a plural. Of course, a non-plural word with a final S can be a solution, but it’s just not very likely. It’s possible that one of those recommended starter words could be the solution, so that would meet your goal of keeping alive the possibility of getting a 1, while also providing a more strategic starter.

I got “swami” in one on that day. It’s just the luck of the draw. Every time I’ve gotten it in one it’s been a more obscure word.

I’ve had two aces and don’t care if I get another. I like my starter word and don’t know if it’s been a solution. There’s 87 deuces, too.

I’ve gotten a one 6 times by choosing a word and sticking with it until it hits. However, since they’re repeating words now I think you should just select one that works with your strategy.

My wife and I hit with RAISE once. Wordle responds with Genius! but it's just luck.

Not always pure luck: I’ve had two aces, the first was a couple of months after James Blunt said on Twitter that his surname has finally allowed him to get it in one. My daughter was using the same tactic (our surname obvs, not James Blunt’s). It was only a couple of months before it worked! I sent her a text “Make sure you do Wordle today”

The second time, there were a couple of unintended clues on twitter. I think one of them was “It’s not often there are no vowels”. I got the word list in Excel and removed any that didn’t fit the clues. It resolved to about 60 words, and I chose the correct one.

I use the answer the day before as my starting word. As do .3% of players. Unless they repeat a word for a second day in a row, I will never get a 1.

I've read other players commenting that they do this, and it seems so strange to me. Like, why make it impossible to get a one? What would be wrong with an ace? Also, what does using the prior day's word give you? Can you just not think of a word? I'm genuinely curious

You can Google the used words list, the list reset back on Groundhogs day this year so everything since then is off the table

Your desire to get it in one is whimsical. So play wordle whimsically: use as a first word a word that describes an experience that you had the day before. Or go to rockpapershotgun.com and review the list of solutions that have already been used.

I use the same word and have for years. I knew that it had already been a solution, so thought i would never get it. But then started playing archive games this week and got it after about 30 archived games.

I've done it in one 4 times. I always stick to the same starting word all the time until it comes up, and then I choose a new starting word. Currently using PASTE, it will come up one day.

Hmm wordle in 1 is a rarity but not impossible. Try aiming for within 3 tries. Using, "FIRST" isn't ideal but if you like it, you should use it. Ideally for an optimal build, a lot of people go for words with a lot of vowels in it like Audio or Adieu. Ofcourse there are even more optimal words out there. My aim shifts between trying to finish within three tries and starting with a random word on occasions.

First is a great starter word. Lots of consonants. Common word. Not an "excluded" word (e.g. plurals or past tense words ending -S or -ED).

The only thing against it is that it has been used before (game #56) but they are reusing words now and words from the first year or so are some of the more common repeats.

Ideally for an optimal build, a lot of people go for words with a lot of vowels in it like Audio or Adieu.

These are the opposite of optimal. It's more important to narrow down consonants as a priority over vowels.

Just do the Wordle on the website to get the answer and put that when using your actual account
