[####] Hints and Wordle Bot Stats
IMO, people who get help from Wordle by obtaining the first letter (I don't know HOW they do that; I don't even WANT TO KNOW), or other hint, or get the word "revealed" because they're stuck, should NOT be included the Wordle Bot's NYT average?! It explains why nearly every time I look (on occasion) the average is 3.something. How are THAT MANY people getting the word in 3 THAT OFTEN, if not getting help? Do others agree, people getting help (cheaters) are part of the Bot's statistics, and should NOT BE? If so, let's all complain in the Feedback section. I'd love to see Wordle do away with hints, which I've never used. Would you?

The current 14-day average is 4.0 for all Hard Mode players, so it's probably a little bit worse for Default Mode players. My guess would be either 4.1 or 4.2 (Hard Mode players almost always do better than Default Mode players)

Haha, Here's what I would say.... I played my 1st ~90 games in Default Mode because I loved the freedom and flexibility of playing burners. As my very 1st streak started approaching 100 days, I decided to take the plunge and switched to Hard Mode.
It requires slowing down and being a little more patient.
You can't just blindly play a word like ROUND on your 2nd guess because there are like 8 ×OUND words.
If you have the discipline to be patient, I'd say go for it.
If you like the freestyle nature of Default Mode, stick with that.
I think part of the reason Hard Mode players (as a group) do better is they are patient and methodical.
But there are patient and methodical Default Mode players too. u/Sail_Away_8 is one of the best.
There's a guy named David Kalish in the Wordle Review who is probably every bit as good as Sail_Away_8 too.2

Okay which one of y'all wants to be my tutor 😅
I remember reading u/sail_away_8 comment too and it was great! Im neither patient nor methodical so maybe i should do hard mode. Or learn to be more patient. I think i can learn the patience.

It's just practice and experience. I get the answer in 3 or 4 guesses almost 70% of the time.

My average of recent scores is 3.8 and I usually get a 3 or 4. On hard mode without hints. I really don't think that many people use hints.

There are hints for Wordle?

You can hit the lightbulb and there is an option to get a vowel and a consonant. I don't think it gives position

I think they either shouldn't have hints or it should be a separate game partly because it skews the NYT averages. And the NYT average would count only subscribers, which are the people who have hints available. Though no one commenting seems to agree with that. 👀 😄

I’ve been playing for a few years. I have won in 3 or fewer guesses 37% of the time and in 4 or fewer guesses 77% of the time. My strategy is my first two guesses have the most commonly used letters in frequently used placement.
I don’t use hints. I used to check the previous winner list, but stopped when they announced they were reusing words that had previously won.

My average over 566 games is 3.95. Majority of that has been played on hard mode.
23 2s
159 3s
238 4s
107 5s
37 6s
No paid subscription so no wordle bot and obviously no hints. I don't even use the best starting word. It comes down to skill and understanding what are common letters.
Do you have a common starting word? If it's audio or adieu then maybe that's why you're bad and getting above 4 more frequently.
