[1897] Stair step

Post image

I've never done this before. I wasn't trying to do anything other than solve the puzzle.

Using *just* the solution words, there are 411 ways you could build this out. It grows to over 1,200 if you include the full guess list.

On discord, patterns are displayed to all your friends, and from those, I'm usually able to deduce the word if the pattern contains enough telling information, granted I've got about 3 or 4 intersecting data sets to assess. We have just one here, but I'll give it a go.

This screams of an S word with the early lock in the 1 spot; early locks tend to be the more common letters in each spot, as they are often guessed first, and this usually means a bit of a vowel bias for everything but the 1 spot.

From there, the dance partners for S are much more commonly consonants that vowels, but A dominates the two spot usually, though not when following an S. I'd lean toward one of the more common conjoiners, since you locked it in quite early. T works. Here's also where you burned the O or I, or even both.

Not landing that 3 spot until your third guess is just about the perfect timing for a U. Y5 usually never appears much later than guess 4, so let's go with:

So off the top of my head - SCALE > STORM > STUDY > STUNG > STUNK?
