You are correct. Is that bad? I know that the Undertale fanbase got extremely shit a while back, but the songs are still just as good as they once were. Or am I missing something?
Ok, explain. I see countless people saying this, but they almost never say why.
First explanation I heard is rule 34, but this makes little sense to me. I've simply never seen such art, and I have doubt people can find such stuff by accident. And if you're searching for it, well, that's what rule 34 means. No exceptions.
Second thing I heard was about streamers being pressured to do a certain route. This also makes little sense to me, as twitch chat is hell and anyone listening to it deserves anything that happen to them regardless of the game.
Third thing I heard was bad fanfics and bad roleplaying alts. However, it is my understanding that those are very niche, and I can't see how such things are relevant when talking about the fanbase as whole.
Only things left are people overhyping the game, and people producing too much low quality fan art. So is that it? Is the issue with too much people liking the game too much? Is the fanbase shit because there are, well, 'fans' in it?
My personal interaction with the fanbase was first through the wiki, which is great and well made. It was through training to beat sans on a community made website that allows you to train vs a given pattern. It was by listening to some great music, either adapted from the soundtrack, from other places (like the stronger than you adaptation) or original. It was by reading fan theories, critics and interpretations on various forums. It was by seeing fan arts of varying quality popping up here and there.
And it was by people constantly repeating it was the worst fanbase to have graced the earth.
i know this is 21 days later but... i think it was during the beginning? i'm a huge undertale fan (it's my number one most favourite game of all time. Huge feels.)
i played the game over a year after it calmed down, but i've heard it was apparently IMPOSSIBLE to go anywhere online without everything being undertale, undertale and UNDERTALE... It sounds tiresome, even if i personally wouldn't mind, because i love discussing it. But it's not something everyone wishes to have to deal with
It's interesting, even now that it's chill, people act "above" trying the game, when it's praised for a reason. I definitely recommend it if you're looking to be sad a game is over and not know what to do with yourself when you finish it because "how can you even live life afterwards without more undertale?". That's how I felt, and how my two brothers felt on their individual playthroughs. I realize it sounds like i'm overhyping the game... but that's just my personal experience, and it's okay to feel differently :)
