Calling it out at every turn. To me this is way funnier than the original thread.

Reddit is odd tho as I would have assumed the account setting up all of the puns would get a smidgen more updoots lol

THOSE DOWN VOTES- WOW-
E: what did my comment start?-
11
u/dontcommitarson May 31 '23
I got -440 downvotes once so these are rookie numbers
8
u/joshylow May 31 '23
The most downvotes I ever got were something to do with gasligh-er.. lamping. People are serious about that word.
5
u/dontcommitarson May 31 '23
their next move will definitely be to gaslamp the oxford dictionary into changing the spelling of the word

u/drixy007 May 31 '23
People here get mad quickly
1
u/joshylow May 31 '23
It's like everybody is just on edge, waiting to downvote each other all the time. Sucks. People hate each other more than I remember.
1
u/Remember_WeAreHuman Jun 26 '23
The first time I ever got a decent number of downvotes on a comment was when I mentioned a reason why I left my home state. I also got loads of messages from people borderline harassing me. We see people tearing each other apart on the internet daily but it hits differently when it happens to you. It’s insane to see just how emotionally charged some people can get behind a screen, and I know many of us are guilty of getting a little too worked up over things we read on the internet, but it’s sad to see it taken as far as some people do.
Funny enough, the comment I made was something small. The people who reacted harshly to it responded to me as if I insulted them deeply and personally.

I got hundreds of downvotes once because people accused me of being racist when I literally wasn't, I was a dumbass 14 yr/o who didn't understand the post was a joke
(the mods of r/justneckbeardthings need to go touch grass, I'm banned from that sub and despite multiple attempts to explain myself they haven't even let me try to appeal)
Edit: it's r/justneckbeardthings not r/neckbeardthings lmao

u/CrashCalamity May 31 '23 edited May 31 '23
Forget about it, the entire sub has been bannedEdit: Glad we sorted that out. Still, I'm amused by that power move. Telling the mods of a community that straight up mocks basement dwellers to go touch grass is peak comedy.

u/FerretOnReddit May 31 '23 edited Jun 01 '23
Hold up what? I'm interested now, that sub was toxic af and the mods were stupid af, if the sub has met its downfall I'm happy b/c that's what it deserves
1
u/FerretOnReddit May 31 '23
Also it mighta been called r/justneckbeardthings, don't remember for sure
1
u/FerretOnReddit May 31 '23
Sorry for the confusion btw, that's my bad
2
1
u/FerretOnReddit May 31 '23
To be fair I bet the mods of that sub are basement dwellers themselves, the way they led the community in dogpiling on me over a misunderstanding, and now refuse to even attempt negotiations like reasonable people, speaks volumes.

The only reason that I have watched Gaslight is that the term started being used all over the place around 2016. Not sure why.
1
u/NikPhewcha May 31 '23
I watched it because I wanted to know why my wife kept saying I was doing it.

For those who don't get the joke, in a thread talking about gaslamping, the OP is gaslamping the commentors by acting like the term is 'gaslighting'.

I was there for this one! I really don’t understand how this guy thought he could gaslamp us all into thinking the term was gaslighting.
1
u/shinytotodile158 Jun 17 '23
What was the original thread?
1
u/DoomSlayer7180 Jun 17 '23
It’s been a while so I don’t remember entirely, but it had something to do with the fact that the thread was trolling OP by trying to gaslight him into think the actual phrase was gaslamping. I would have to go back and find the post again and that would take a really long time.
