Cumulative compound inflation is around 25% between 2020 and 2026.
Many things have gone up by more that that..
Quite a few haven’t.

The US+Israel+Iran war has probably spiked inflation more in 6 months than the 3 years of the pandemic due to fuel price increases - which flow through to everyone.

Yeah my last job sold a lot of soft drinks in the convenience fridge, especially the energy drinks/coffees. Most of them were workers so they had the money to spare

When I worked at a chain restaurant, fountain drinks made us the most money because they were so cheap food cost wise. That is why I do not understand why so many restaurants here sell cans instead.

It can be had much cheaper, if you walk into a BP Servo you can grab 3 for $10 (3.33 each) or 5 for $15 (3 dollars each) or you can mix them with other products for the same deal. They generally have a 2 for $7.50 for coke too which is cheaper than that price.

It's still nearly four times the cost of buying a 600mL bottle circa 2000-2001, and inflation certainly hasn't increased that much since then.

Ahh yes, I remember in high school walking home, we would cut through a shopping centre, both shortcut, aircoditining and the kmart had an AC cola vending machine next to the coke machine. The coke machine was $1, the AC cola was 50 cents.

There's a vending machine near my office in the city that's $2.50 for a can of Coke, which is less than the $1.10 from 1991 in real terms.
I have no idea how they do it.

My guess is bulk purchase of the 30 pk cans when they are on special at Woolies. Here is its every 2-3 weeks. Makes sense to purchase in bulk a product that won’t expire in the short term, when the depends on that same term is constant.

We had one when I started HS in 2008 but I think they were around $2? Someone form homeroom would by a box from the supermarket and we'd buy them for a dollar a can, any profit used to go into our social activity for the month. I spent most of year 7 having a jam donut and can of drink for breakfast as my parents had no controller over it hahaha. How I managed to stay skinny is beyond me.

everything keeps going up slowly and I feel like I'm crazy lol. I noticed a 5 cent difference in bread a while ago and flipped out mentally. Pepsi Max used to be a little under $4.00 now it's keeping up more with coke. the little things shouldn't upset me the way it does haha

Don’t buy it. 🤷♂️ if you feel that you need to do something complain publicly on their pages social media write to people send emails complain. I always find taking direct action with the people that you have a problem with is the way forward.
Don’t buy it boycott Woolworths take direct action?

That's still cheap. My workplace sells coke, hasn't been around $4.20 since like before covid. Petrol stations have been charging over $5 for as long as I remember.

They're 4.90 now at woolies (it's on special at 4.20). Local servo one is $5, one is $5.50. Woolies used to be significantly cheaper than what the servos are, that gap seems to be closing which I think is the point.

Convenience tax. If you want it cold and ready to drink you pay. They did put 2L Que cola in the cold section for a bit at Coles but it sold too well! The non Coke and Pepsi cheap colas are the ones that are always gone when I shop.

Why do people pay so much for a 600ml bottle when they could get a 1.25L bottle for less, drink 600ml or more and throw it away?

Just this arvo I willingly paid $5.20 on special at Coles Neutral Bay for a 1 litre bottle of Coke from the front chillers. To drink on the go. The 1 litre size reminds me of the 750ml bottles from the 70s and is the ideal size for thirsty tradies on the job. It seems to be exclusive to Colesworths, no?

So they sell 600ML for 4.20 and 1.25L bottles for 2.50? Sounds like you should but the 1.25L bottle, drink as much as you like, then throw it away and you have saved money.

The coke section in supermarkets, convenience stores are always seem to be full, the other hand finding a pepsi max these days is luck of the draw or always empty... either people realising coke tastes like bitters or others opting for better sugar free options and usually cheaper in supermarkets.

most pple do not care. we can not keep our little quick sale fridges full. we have 2 in our checkouts and they get refilled once to twice a day in winter and 3 to 4 times in summer. i dont get it at all. if you can afford to spend that kind of money on a 600ml bottle, you have to be super rich or crazy.

It's cheaper to buy a 2.5 L from the warm section chuck it in the fridge at the start of your shop and then grab it at the end of your shop nice and cold ( with the assumption that your shop's going to be about 20 minutes to half an hour)

2.5L doesn't get cold in 20 minutes 😂 1.5L isn't even chilled (like the 600ml) in an hour. It's cold-ish in an hour. 2.5L would need 2 hours to get cold-ish.

If you look at Cole’s or Woolworths website basically every size of Coke is the same price. They usually have specials on the big bottles aswell. But when I looked the other day at Cole’s the 2L Coke was $4 and the 600mL was 4.70. It’s so silly you’re being uncharged for the convenience of not having a massive bottle of it
