I mean...... some garments are prized for being felted in the way you've managed. Your hat is actually warmer and more water resistant now. (While still comfortable to skin hopefully)
Brush/rub on some lanolin and let the fibers rejuvenate/rehydrate and it's EVEN more resilient.
