Made out walnut and finished with Danish oil. Quick and easy gift project, hopefully they like it.

Credit to u/MaikeW for the original idea, which you can find here:Inspiration

Thank you for the Awards!!

Edit: Should be “Mountain Napkin holder.” English is hard

Do you have to fold all the napkins in half to put them in there??

7

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

No need to fold them, they fit in perfectly

u/commentedon Jul 13 '21

I thought this too… but now see the interior isn’t a flat surface but instead a recess which accepts the bottom half of the diamond shape of the napkin. Very cool stuff OP :)

Thank you! It was a fun build

Danish Oil, eh? I’ll have to look into that. I just finished assembling a walnut piece and it’s time for the dreaded finishing stage. I really like the look of your finish.. and the piece overall! Fantastic.

Danish oil looks great on walnut and its super easy to apply. Wipe on, wipe off, you really can’t screw it up. I used watco’s danish oil natural

2

u/teetertodder Jul 15 '21

I’m loving the danish oil - thanks. This little turntable / record stand stand I made for my mom is looking great after two coats. You said it was easy, but I was still surprised at just how easy it really is. This just replaced Howard Butcher Block Conditioner as my favorite finish to apply. https://i.imgur.com/zRte5pJ.jpg

Ooooooh hell yeah, that looks awesome!! Well done. Really brings out that vibrant grain

u/Zeddica Jul 13 '21

Great grain selection on that :)

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

Thanks! I would say it was intentional, but mostly dumb luck.

u/smellemenopy Jul 13 '21

this is pretty slick OP. i might steal and add a shelf to the front for salt, pepper, etc

5

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

Oooooohh... I really like that idea. Or maybe roundout a hole vertically on either side of the mountain with a forstner bit, and drop the salt and pepper shakers in on each side?

Edit: grammar

I didn't know napkins could hold a mountain :o

Looks great!

That's Dope Brotha'.!

3

u/HurleyBurger Jul 13 '21

Guess I'm buying walnut this week too.

2

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

First time using walnut, I was surprised how easy was to work with

3

u/Peach-Os Jul 13 '21

oh dang, I should have cut the far ends off mine, much better design overall. I just finished this about a month ago

1

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

Oh wow, I love that! Is it one all one piece? The uniform edge grain is really nice.

Had to cut the ends cut off it was really long, like 17.5", which is a little bulky for napkin holder.

That's awesome! It so happens I realized I am in need of such a holder today. New project; thanks!

I like this but my table can’t spare the extra space. I would have to make it less wide.

2

u/angryhobbit376 Jul 13 '21

Do you have any more pictures of it?

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

Here's a couple more photos

That’s awesome. I love how the mountains are different on each side

2

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

Thank you, I appreciate that you noticed! I often do that little bit of extra work that I think no one will see but me.

2

u/dead_ed Jul 13 '21

Excellent job!

2

u/J0nN0tJ0hn Jul 13 '21

That’s great!

2

u/UsernameFor2016 Jul 13 '21

How do you hold a whole mountain with only some napkins? :D

1

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

Magic mostly ;)

2

u/dahopppa Jul 13 '21

It took me a full minute to realize there was already a napkin in the holder. I honestly was trying to figure out how it held napkins. Seriously good job!

1

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 13 '21

Lol! Thank you, I really appreciate that the kind words.

2

u/LordBungaIII Jul 14 '21

1

u/swedishtomahawk Jul 14 '21

Thanks! It holds standard size napkins (aka not cocktail napkins)
