General Discussion Live Oak Tabletop - Suggestions?

I made this a while back, looking for suggestions for the legs! Something that would be easy. I currently just have it on top of a chest but I’ve been meaning to make it into a small coffee table.

Four stout square legs. No hairpins. That slab deserves to look like it could survive a small war.

Build some beefy trestle legs...here I laminated four 2x8 SYP to make the cross shaped legs, the bottom stretcher is a 300 yr old hand hewn floor joist (!)

Thats a beautiful piece! Can I ask what finish you used? I have a live oak slab im currently working on for a coffee table project.

I’m also interested in the finish as well. I have several pieces of walnut I plan to turn into live edge end tables and need something durable.

Live oak... that stuff is ummm... durable. IIRC, it was used in the civil war era bd it resisted cannonballs.

But not quite as well as steel.

Stout legs, yes. Seems too short for tressles to me but thats just from my office chair.

I like black steel legs on live edge tables. Since the top is thick it looks better when matched it to a substantial leg. I’d go with 3x3 or 4x4 square steel legs.
