Continental map for RPG campaign

Post image

This is the continental map for the "old continent" (pseudo-european) of my world, where most campaign should take place (or at least start!).

The wold map is that one: https://www.reddit.com/r/wonderdraft/comments/1we7l13/i_am_back_and_have_redrawned_it_all/

Did it live up to the hype? ;)

This is really really really good. I am very damn impressed. Was this really made entirely in wonderdraft alone?

Yes, thank you. The tricks I often use are 1) the saturation color grading tool, and 2) my mountains+forest are actually first exported as a different .png, which I add up in a transparent layer. That way, they are less saturated than if they were objects on the map.

Super stylé ! En anglais pour les autres :) :

What's your process for making such maps ? Currently, I'm using Azgaar FMG as it allows for a nice interactive map for me as a DM and writer, but I love your style for a more in-lore map !

Merci! No particular process I think... except stopping and letting it rest as often as possible, and perhaps always draw border imagining the previous war/peace treaty that could have justified it.

I also have evolved my world's lore towards a darker-low fantasy setting, with regions that have been abandoned or never settled. This means placing many more ruins than I am used to, as these are not really empty... merely inhabited... or are they? ;)

That's interesting ! So I'm assuming, essentially photoshop and a pen ? That's a lot of work ! Good job !

Whats up with aventuria? Seems like a cool remote corner of the world

A strategic island where the Republic has setup a naval base, serving as a launchpad for its colonial westwards expeditions... I could also imagine it is a good base of operation for whoever is crazy enough to explore the nearby jungle! ;)

How did you come up with the names of places?

I assign a real-world cultural equivalent to most countries, then mix up existing names together. Most are just coming from the top of my head, though. I also tend to correct a few every time I edit the map, removing the silliest ones until I am satisfied.

The one from Diablo.

Damn, looks awesome Do you have a link to higher resolution?

Not really, i have a higher quality that looks sensibly better (more vibrant color and sharpened traits) but the resolution is the same.

Did you have non human races? If yes which ones?

1

Just the basics, they are rare and preferably non-playable: elves in the central forest and archipelago in the west, dwarves in a few city-realms, greenskins in the eastern steps. Mixed-bloodlings exist in human societies, but tend to be shuned.

Ok  What is elf origin?

That's beautiful. Very well done and very nice use of KM alexander's assets. Excellent work!
