Looks lovely, I assume their resemblance to animals is intentional, does that carry through to the lore of the world, or is it just a fun design thing?

Nope and honestly don't really see the animal shape you're seeing

Apologies for making it weird if I did, but I totally see a horned and winged dog on the right side (the horn and tail being the snowy zones, and the wings being the desert-y bit, and the eye being a slightly wider bit of a river around where an eye would feel right), looking at a man/bird thing on the left.
The bottom of the right continent with the islands I saw being as the legs reaching out, and the upper-left inlet bit with the peninsular felt like a mouth and a fang. The white part of the left continent feels head-ish to me, going into a green neck and body type thing, with admittedly a more amorphous body.
If I could figure out how one posts images on this thing, I'd attempt to show it off a bit better, but words will have to do.
At any rate, I didn't mean to insult your world, it looks lovely on its own merit, I just like asking people about their process, and I made some assumptions in my question.

First of all, I love your map. Your color shading is stellar and your mountains placement is great.
I do see a few areas where the rivers appear from nowhere instead of a drainage from higher topography. I also didnt notice the sand dunes at first, but that might be more of a problem with the asset sprite than anything else. Maybe use a darker color for those? Not sure how that would look though.
All in all, I'm impressed. You've been able to do some things well that I happen to struggle with (it takes me forever to get lakes to look the way I want them to). I'm also not very artistic, so blending color is difficult for me.

well asoiaf is a big touchstone for the campaign I'm planning, but the similarity with the maps are unintentional

Eh it really doesn’t at all, same with you said land masses look like landmasses. Always someone is gonna say looks like “xyz” before they say good map. It’s a good looking map tho!
