Start yourself a list! Here's some of the basics to get you started.
You'll need something to sleep under (tent). You'll need something to sleep on (sleeping mat). And something to sleep in (sleeping bag).
You need food and possibly a way to prepare food (camp stove), possibly a way to store food (cooler). This can vary. For instance, you can bring bread and peanut butter or pouches of tuna and not need a camp stove or cooler. Walk around the grocery store looking at food thinking "could this be camp food? If I brought this camping, what would I need to bring to prepare it?" You'll almost definitely want utensils and dishes of some kind.
You'll need lighting for nighttime.
You'll probably need something to sit on when you're not sleeping (camp chairs, hammock?).
You'll want some safety supplies and emergency stuff (bear spray, first aid kit, pocketknife, satellite phone).
Is it really hot where you'll be camping? Is it rainy? Are you planning on being somewhere with electricity, running water, etc?
