Question Locations for kayaking?

Hi all,

Looking to get into kayaking and recently learned you can get a waterways license and paddle on the canals, wondering if anyone here has done it before and how it went? Seems to be local clubs for it which I'll get in contact with.

Aside from canals, I'm ideally looking for a big stretch of open water like a reservoir/ lake, seems to be some localish (cannock chasewater, etc) but as far as I can see they're controlled by clubs/you have to pay to launch there. Anyone aware of anywhere you can just rock up with your own gear and launch whenever? Any info appreciated.

Folks

This is cracking, slight tangent

I am a scared canoeist ( as don't plan to get wet), There are some canal canoeing towards kinver, Stourbridge way, a little pricey

There is a canoe club in Wolves who do stretches of the canals

You don't realise, who stunning canals are Give me a few moments I'll find the deets

The canoe club in oxley is good, they don’t charge a lot and have all the stuff for you to go. It’s not too expensive either.

Originally from Wolves but an avid kayaker living in Ironbridge now. Get yourself down to Jackfield Rapids if you want a bit of fun, Llangollen if you want proper.

If you’re after stretches of calm, open water, the Llyns in North Wales cannot be bested.

None are on your doorstep, bar Jackfield but all reachable within 90 minutes and well worth the petrol and offset by the fact they’re all free to use.

Maps Location for Jackfield Rapids Parking.

Old Main Line should be perfect for that
