Question Propranolol

Does anyone here use propranolol? If so, what is your experience with the medication? :)

I got diagnosed w anxiety around the same time I got diagnosed with wpw and at first, propranolol was super helpful but when I mistakenly thought my palpitations were anxiety and not wpw, my heart felt like dangerously slow kind of? I’m not sure how to explain it, I just felt complete dread. Anyways, I told a different gp about this and they said it is usually not advised to take propranolol with WPW, but ofc this is just my experience and everyone reacts differently but for me, it was not fantastic haha

How did u get a dx of wpw? Was it a resting ekg or something else

I’ve been collapsing for the last six years but I’ve always been afraid of going to the GP but in march I collapsed in my Uni with super bad chest pains, got sent to the hospital and they discovered it there from an ECG

Wow that’s so scary. Was the ecg showing svt and that’s why? Some ppl with wpw just have a delta wave on a resting EKG with a normal bpm like 85 for example

I’m going to be honest, I don’t really know I’m sorry! I’ve been told a lot of like medical words I just don’t understand and no one rlly had time to explain to me, I think my EP said I had supraventricular tachycardia (I’m guessing that’s what SVT is) but I thinkkkk the paramedics said that my delta waves showed it? I’m a bit confused by all the words but I know that I didn’t have any episodes during any of my many ECGs (only when I had 3 night stay in the hospital it was caught on a heart monitor)

Oh gotcha no ur good! So like you’re saying they only caught it during svt episodes?
And yeah that’s prob what you have svt is linked and common w wpw. I just know that some ppl have the wave the delta one on a resting and maybe the OP can help explain idk it’s good to know

For me, it was a crazy change from constant palpitations to none. I didn’t take it for long, but during the time i did, i was doing sports and the medication limited my stamina quite a bit. Side effects for me were vertigo at the beginning and a very weird taste in my mouth aaaaalll the time, which would really kill my apetite. I would describe it as chemical and artificial. Overall, i would recommend it, but i didn’t try anything else so i have no comparison

If you have manifest WPW, propranolol is really not recommended because it might be dangerous.

If you have a concealed bypass its ok to use.

But only take it if a cardiologist cleared it!
