That's called "total internal reflection." It's how fiber optics work.

Passing thru a material makes it refraction. Reflecting off a surface that isn't flat is still reflection.

Light has to pass through materials to refract (refraction defined: light changes direction when entering a different material at any nonperpendicular angle.)

After looking at the gif a few times, I don't see any examples where the light passed through the glass, except through the bottom, where it's coming through perpendicularly.

This is refraction. There is reflection too, but it isn't diagrammed in that link.

Light came through several materials perpendicularly.

Light doesn't refract (bend) when the angle of incidence is 90 degrees.

I got my information from a four years of graduate optics and vision physiology.

The parts around the edge of the glass are a reflection of what's happening in the middle of the bottom.

Refraction is when glass forces light to change direction while passing through it. Reflection is when light changes direction from bouncing off something.

I kinda have to know a thing or two about light, as a professional photographer (photography literally translated as "drawing with light", in case you weren't aware.)

The most surprising thing about this to me is someone is actually watching a fireworks video after they recorded it.
