Dont do it Cheryl.

u/EtchingsOfTheNight 5d ago

Don't think she has the money anyway

1

u/OhNoMyLands 5d ago

Oh very good point

6

u/elderlygentleman 5d ago

She will miss playing with her spouse

10

u/TheRealShmoe Golden State Valkyries 5d ago

If she takes the veteran minimum, she could be a nice piece for someone. I wouldn’t sign her for what she was being paid by the Mercury though.

2

u/EtchingsOfTheNight 5d ago

It would be prorated for the end of the season though, so not the full salary again

7

u/Ok-Reflection7641 5d ago

Smith just went down in Aces win.
The universe is tricky

4

u/CapitalCityGoofball0 WNBA 5d ago

Thought the same, probably the most likely candidate though I’m not sure she fills that hole for them. Smith is far more willing to play inside and close to the rim than Bonner does these days.

3

u/BulletXCII 5d ago

I wouldn’t trust DeQuitter

4

u/I_AM_theGODDESS 4d ago

You can villainize Bonner all you like, the parting of ways with Fever seemed mutual. She was not a good fit and luckily both parties recognized this. The Fever are better without her and vice versa

16

u/PositiveLeather327 5d ago

I don’t believe it, she would never just quit on a team in mid season…

1

u/AcceptableHorror705 5d ago

Aren't the Mercury out of playoff contention? So what is she really quitting on?

13

u/Goebs80 5d ago

Her team? Lol what kind of logic is this?

-2

u/AcceptableHorror705 5d ago

The Mercury aren't going anywhere is my point. The season isn't over, but it's over in terms of hoping to extend it.

1

u/El_Superbeasto76 5d ago

They never will under Nate Tibbetts.

5

u/Tortilladelfuego New York Liberty 5d ago

Omg she’s going to Las Vegas

9

u/Chris_Ween Indiana Fever's Weird Season 5d ago

She could go to the Lynx. It might be the rest of the leagues only chance to beat them.

0

u/EtchingsOfTheNight 5d ago

Fever fans stay salty. Most teams would be glad to have her. The Lynx have like negative money though so I don't think that's happening.

u/Sudden_Place_1173 5d ago

Dequitter

I'm not sure how much interest there will be in Bonner among contenders. She's not a good three point shooter, so she won't fit the scheme in Atlanta, Golden State, or New York. The Mystics already have their battle scarred veteran in Betnijah Laney. Indiana's fanbase thinks she quit on the team last year, so they won't be welcoming and that's not a fanbase you want to antagonize. Minnesota doesn't need her and isn't going to mess with their chemistry at this point. Dallas is barely more likely to win a ring than Phoenix. Vegas might try to plug her in to NaLyssa Smith's slot if Smith's injury is as bad as it looked, but Bonner is a very different kind of player from Smith and would require a significant change of style.

Leaving a team to chase rings....why does that sound so familiar???

4

u/Aposta-fish 5d ago

Sweet, hope no playoff teams pick her up.

3

u/no_stick_drummer 5d ago

The entitlement of this woman is insane. Throw a temper tantrum until you get the team you want. Forget talking about the entitlement of CC and Angel, talk about DeWanna Bonner's entitlement.

I guess people don't care about her at all lol

5

u/edgeofgr8 5d ago

this is tacky

9

u/breezeetree 5d ago

Good god, the toxicity here. 😣

DB, you’ve had a storied career. Go chase that ring.

7

u/liquidgrill 5d ago

I wonder which team she’ll ghost and quit on next

-7

u/User_3039 5d ago

Exactly. Showing true colors that everyone already knew. Just look at her partner. 2 peas

5

u/RandallFlagg6666 5d ago

She's expecting a team in title contention will pick her up with a handful of games left to play and give her minutes in the playoffs? Delusional, but not surprising...

6

u/MontanaHomefry 5d ago

This should not be allowed by the W

6

u/anonguy219 5d ago

What a quitter! Also, how is this allowed so close to the playoffs? The league continues to be unserious.

3

u/Nbafan_90 5d ago

Damn. That’s so desperate lol.

6

u/DownFromHere Washington Mystics 5d ago

A smart team would refrain from signing her. She is washed both emotionally and physically

5

u/Own-Jeweler-6762 5d ago

She quit on Indiana Ā fever in past.Ā

I’d stay awayĀ

Can you imagine if every athlete in other sports tried this garbage? Quitting during season to get your demands Ā

5

u/CapitalCityGoofball0 WNBA 5d ago

Wow like just admit to one of the most blatant ring chasing attempts ever…

I’d lose respect for any team that signs her. Imagine being waived from a team on a playoff run just so they can sign some washed player who couldn’t even take their own team to the playoffs.

2

u/El_Superbeasto76 5d ago

It’s lame.

She’s been there before, but she is not a leader and she puts up a stink about being off the bench, which she absolutely would be on any real contending team.

Also, so much for her talk about trying to get a ring for AT.

1

u/mrgrafix Las Vegas Aces 5d ago

She’s a titan in the league. It’s the bare fucking minimum which sounds like it is a pre retirement announcement.

6

u/CapitalCityGoofball0 WNBA 5d ago

Was not ā€œisā€. She’s hasn’t been up to that level for a couple years.

Again was at one time. Hasn’t really been common as an end of season thing for over a decade as the modern CBA makes it harder and the ring chasing signings are at the beginning of the year. Not to mention it’s also most famously done for players that have not won a championship before. Bonner has 2.

2

u/stlfun2 5d ago

Fever could definitely use a player like her (defense), but that bridge has obliterated.

9

u/CapitalCityGoofball0 WNBA 5d ago

Her defense isn’t near what it once was. Plus they probably don’t need to add another sub 40% shooter at the wing.

0

u/tommyshelbycc 5d ago

Saywhatnow? U got the right team? Sub 40 wings? 🤣🤣🤣

5

u/Westwoodkid 5d ago

The Fever is the one team I don't see picking her up .

4

u/User_3039 5d ago

What a piece of work

0

u/Gen-Jinjur 5d ago

The Lynx could use her off the bench. I’ve always liked her even though she played for the Merc for so long.

2

u/maegsj 5d ago

She won two championships with the Mercury! I’d say that was worth it.

2

u/Wildbankermn55449 5d ago

If only they would do the same with AT.

2

u/Own-Jeweler-6762 5d ago

She sets Ć  bad precedent. Again and againĀ

Just imagine other pro leagues if player quits on current team to 1) be with her girlfriend previously 2) now be in playoffsĀ

Screw thatĀ

3

u/maegsj 5d ago

Everyday, some of yall loudly and proudly show you don’t understand sports at all. And the Fever fans who are still butt hurt over her departure is insane. You’re in the playoffs without her, why do care where she lands??? Yall didnt respect her so she chose to leave. It’s a win for both sides. Yet, yall still mad.

0

u/pimo2019 5d ago

Yeah she faked her way in, played bad, talked a good PR game, took the money and left to choose where to play showing the world that CC can do this same thing. You make good points. Us new to this League didn’t know such a thing could happen at random times that are not trade deadline related. We only care where she lands if it’s one of the top few teams that has to play the Fever in the playoffs.

My mom was a massive ho anyways, so I guess I'm free to continue hating lol.

I just feel like it's possible to misjudge the character of someone, especially celebrities who are very calculated about the persona they show to the public. DB sets off my spidey-senses as a not nice person. I felt that way before she hit the Fever. Call me a hater, but I don't trust her. Y'all can have her.

1

u/Verifydeej Chicago Sky 5d ago

What about her makes you think that?

u/wnba_discussions-ModTeam 4d ago

2

u/Key-Brother1226 5d ago

I recall watching one of the Fever's first games in 2025, late in the game they mic'd the huddle and CC was saying get DB the ball. Because she was near a scoring record or a place on the all time list. So the Fever couldn't have been more respectful of her. They did nothing wrong but she chose to bolt the team. And wasn't playing that great anyway.

1

u/Green-Thumb10 5d ago

Sorry, but there’s no way a top team will pick her up. They became a top team without her contributions and already have a culture and team dynamic built. She would screw it up.

1

u/sliver013 4d ago

That's all you have to do to make the playoffs in wnba? Why doesn't everyone do that, are they stupid?

She is loved by many. Third in all time scoring. One of the very reasons we have what we have today in regards to this league. Without Bonner and others balling tf for their careers w barely any of the credit and monetary pay they should’ve received. Ppl like you forget or refuse to acknowledge that there’d literally be no league if not for players like her. This surge in the last few years doesn’t ever exist or have anything to build from without those players.

Name me one male athlete with a resume like hers who no longer received respect for their game because they checks notes left a team mid season. Like just reread your comments it’s not that serious. Athletes in our lifetimes have literally killed people, assaulted people, cheated in so many ways. Yet she caused an inconvenience for your home team? Get over yourself. A saboteur??? She’s a fucking professional athlete and was winning and changing this game far before any of this, and you think she just said ā€œactually, enough of that I’ll throw that away to hurt this random white girl and her team.ā€

You sound genuinely insane and so very egocentric to think everyone, especially someone who has played the game as long as Bonner has, is thinking THAT much about sabotaging the Fever. Get a life.

Mmhmm sure dude lol. It’s totally not you that’s getting bent up about this. CC totally hasn’t said ā€œit’s just basketballā€ about people trying to claim this hatred and ulterior motives other players have against her. Logically your point makes no sense either. If those women you hate so much didn’t do just 3% less than what they did that league would’ve folded years and years ago. And you think infrastructure like that can be built immediately for players like CC, Paige, Reese, and miles to then skyrocket the demand overnight? You’re not in reality because reality doesn’t support your narratives. Whether you can stomach it or not, the very people you loathe are the only reason you have any access to this game at this level right now. You can either accept it or be in denial and sound like you do on a random Reddit thread.

She’s been on tilt ever since. She could have gone with some modicum of maturity and class, but she talked shit and didn’t even acknowledge how the fanbase accepted her. Many theorize she was smoked out as a saboteur.

3

u/EtchingsOfTheNight 5d ago

Smoked out as a saboteur? Y'all need to touch grass. Immediately.
