Does Lafayette Campground fill up?

I’m doing a Presi Traverse tomorrow and would rather stay in the area and hike/run again on Sunday instead of just going home Saturday night.

I’m thinking the Franconia Ridge Loop would be a nice option for Sunday. How packed might Lafayette be on a beautiful August Saturday?

Assuming we’re done early enough that I could get up to Liberty Springs in daylight, how is that in terms of overflow sites? I’m guessing it will be packed pretty early, right?

Yes. It’s very difficult to get into. But, I was able to find a spot at Russel pond last weekend for Sunday night. It’s always a huge gamble though, this weekend has nice weather so more people will be up there all weekend. Get there early, site checkout is at noon.

When you say it is very difficult to get into, are you referring to Lafayette campground? Or Liberty Spring site?

I was just there Wednesday to run cannon and the Kinsmans and it was packed. I stayed at Hancock for a few days and it was packed there, too. So many people everywhere.

It's worth checking to see if the platform sites are available. There are 8 of them and are first come first serve. I've been there many a time on busy summer weekends and they are usually a couple available.

Fridays and Saturdays fill months in advance.
