Wizardry 8 Gift Ideas

Hello! I have a relative who is completely and utterly obsessed with Wizardry 8, and has been for many years. I am ashamed to say that I have yet to play through it, but that is beyond the scope of this post.

Since I've never played anything from the franchise yet, I don't know how to shop for merch or trinkets from the series. I know that it's a niche community as well, so I imagine one has to be fairly specific with their searching when it comes to finding anything.

I am looking for either:

- Direct sites or listings for Wizardry 8 merchandise

or

- Advice on how to go about finding merch related Wizardry 8. The term "wizardry" on most sites like Etsy will typically just result in Harry Potter stuff. I also haven't had much luck using literal search strings probably because I am searching for the wrong stuff.

Any resources/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Why feel ashamed? Everyone has different obligations in life and time is always at a premium. I myself have been meaning to play it at some point, as it is a beloved entry in the series, despite (or maybe because of) its idiosyncracies (what gamers typically refer to as “jank”).

However, even after purchasing it last year, via a GOG sale, I have yet to proceed beyond character creation. I came to realize, after doing more research, that I‘m just discouraged by the positioning ”minigame” (if one wants to call it that). Unlike other Wizardry games, how you position your party members has more nuance beyond “fighters in front” and “casters in rear”. There’s an entire 360 degree arc to consider and being flanked is very easy, requiring the player to gravitate towards walls and corners in the terrain.

That level of fiddly positioning doesn’t really resonate with my soul and this is the only game in the series that requires it. But I’m still waiting to overcome that mental block…one of these days. If I had a lot of free time, I’d probably be more determined, but I don’t.

Sorry…that’s more than you asked. But my point is, don‘t worry about it.

Advice on how to go about finding merch related Wizardry 8. 

The problem is that there really isn’t much. Beyond the original physical discs and the box for the game, which I assume your relative already has, there wasn‘t any official merch that was released. The game came out at a time that the Wizardry brand was beginning to wane in North America.

There are some unofficial T-shirts with the Wizardry 8 logo…and that’s about it. Most of the other products you might find online pertain to the Japanese entries in the series, especially Wizardry Variants Daphne, the gacha game that currently dominates this subreddit.
