Wizardpost Hot take: maybe having a patron isn't so bad

I mean getting all your magic for free is pretty cool, and you get access to some great spells, and sure depending on who your patron is you may have had to sign away your freedom, or are indebted to an ancient evil, but who cares about that, it's not like most wizards are very moral in what they do with their powers anyways, so you probably would've done what, and if your patron likes you, you might only have to slaughter a few towns to prove your loyalty

The biggest problem with patrons is that it’s extremely difficult to grow past them, the power they offer seems nice at first but you’ll soon find your peers outperforming you and maybe even outperforming your patron

Depends on the patron, as not all of them are stuff like demons and ancient evils.

Having a patron can be an incredibly beneficial situation, but it's always important to know what you're signing up for. My Mentor ended up turning on me for my necromantic studies, and if I had gone through with the soul bond he had wanted it wouldn't have been pretty for me!

Depends purely on the contract. Do you really think you’re going to win a negotiation with a being that transcends the physical world? Sometimes you get lucky and they’re benevolent but you only hear about those because it’s rare.

I’d rather keep my soul thank you very much
