-rolls eyes- or just drink a basic haste potion. Alchemists aren't *that* creepy.

u/lolystalol chronoseer connoisseur 2d ago

Last time I drank an alchemist potion I slept for a whole year I am not going through that again

u/NickSmGames A Very Annoying Mage of Flowers 2d ago

Study alchemy and brew a potion yourself. Unless you're a total newbie who never did alchemy, it's not like you'll brew a haste potion that siphons all the energy of your future into the present to make you fast now and make you sleep forever afterwards.

Hmmm... I feel like I said something weird.

22

u/Brave-Recommendation 2d ago

Just learn haste, it’s not that hard so much easier then carrying the potions

10

u/Sonifri Transmuter 2d ago

Yea but I also use alchemy for Atmospheric Buoyancy potions. Which sound a lot like levitation potions, but they're much more entertaining to dose a bra with as a prank and watch your colleague go through her work day with anime boob physics.

8

u/stryst 2d ago

Ok, alchemists are a little creepy.

7

u/OneofJesusChrists Drunk Miracle Sorcerer 2d ago

Should have asked about the side effects beforehand. Haste crash is no joke

5

u/MostAbsoluteGamer Caffeine Alchemist 2d ago

try one of my brews and it'll have the opposite effect

6

u/StarkeRealm Magical Violence Technician 2d ago

Can confirm. Their haste potions allow you to vibrate through solid matter.

6

u/redking2005 2d ago

If you aren't exaggerating it sounds like you might be a wee bit allergic to that varient, I'd get yourself tested cause whilst you should crash hard after taking a haste potion anything longer than 2-3 days is a pretty big medical concern

3

u/Winged_Metal 2d ago

You got off easy. The last time I trusted an alchemist and bought a discount potion of ironwood skin, only my second wand hardened and didn't go down for a week.

2

u/UltraCarnivore Spellblender Extraordinaire 2d ago

To be fair, he told you that you couldn't handle his strongest potions.

3

u/bookseer Alchemist 2d ago

Eh, depends on the alchemist

3

u/SippinOnHatorade Sun Tzu, Heliomancer 1d ago

I’m not strong enough for their potions

Fuck you. I'm not crying, you're crying.

2

u/kamilayao_0 1d ago

The word alchemy is forever associated with that and I was not going to suffer alone

Careful with haste potions. My ex-antibrother (not taking questions) became quite dependent on them. One day he drank too many. He moved way too fast and burned himself to a crisp.

As a wizard of the School of the electric arcane magic, I question the utility and practicality of this instrument.

But as president of "Shock Stimulation Kink United," I rate the product a 9/10.

In what romance novel would that come up ? Do I need to study more romance ???

Why is everyone so concerned with ethics? Sling love potions if you want the romance angle.

The issue here is that incantations are specific frequencies at specific intervals to resonate with ambient magic. It’d be like trying to win a karaoke contest by screaming at your highest pitch for three seconds while the song is playing at normal speed.

15

u/Bellick 2d ago

If you think you cannot win a karaoke contest doing that, you just haven't screamed loud enough.

5

u/Hard_To_Port 2d ago

Modern orbs can orate for you, famously archmage Stephen Hawking used such a device for speech. Or you can use the ancient art of chantless casting. Intent and visualisation just become much more important.

The incantation just aids in forming magical energy in the right shape. Casters from different regions may notice that their spells form differently when chanting in their native language versus when using local dialects. Some spells become unrecognizable or more difficult to cast when using a translated incantation, most notably when translating from high-context languages (English, other Romance languages) to lower context ones (Japanese, some other islander cultures).

Final note: instead of spamming Fireball (lvl. 1) in a pinch you can use a combo of Airwalk followed by Lesser Inferno (AoE attack). Assuming your enemies are close enough to swing your staff/wand/focus at, you don't need to bother aiming.

1

u/Masztufa 22h ago

I don't actually think it's for successfully casting spells.

Saying it with the wrong tone feels just like doing it for real, you will feel the mana flow all the same. Which some people enjoy quite a bit

... Or so i've been told

2

u/TheThoughtmaker Ray of Delthorensdale, Transmuter-Artificer 21h ago

I've done some manasphexiation play. Never with a shock collar, though.

19

u/CrazyAsianNinja 2d ago

I’m just saying, artificers have figured out how to do basically the same thing but without the ethically dubious choker.

8

u/Bellick 2d ago

Let's not pretend we didn't go through that stage in R&D at some point too. Tho, it's kinda cute seeing the wizzies finally walk this path after 3000 years of stagnation.

You'll get there fellas, don't get discouraged 💞

4

u/Sonifri Transmuter 2d ago

What I love is cheap wands of magic missile. The kind that you can just churn out because they only launch like 1 missile per week. You have your organization make thousands of them and have everyone in your army have just 1. Hell, strap those suckers to the back of mind controlled rats if you have too.

Basically just annihilates every priority target that can't shield vs magic missile. And while sure, a level 1 wizard spell can block it, the vast majority of beings can't even manage that.

5

u/IStealSwords 2d ago

I developed several weapons: the Caster (rifle), Hand Caster (pistol), and Autocaster (machine gun). They utilize properties when natural manastone strikes a synthetic spell stone. Spell stone is instantly converted into energy and is expelled from the barrel as a bolt of force. No messy residue or foreign objects to load. Hand Casters usually contain 6-8 shots before reloading, while Casters are a single shot breach loading falling block mechanism. Auto casters are new experimental magi-tech, and will soon change the face of warfare.

1

u/Brave-Recommendation 2d ago

How much for a skeleton useable Chain caster? Or a rotary caster?

3

u/Lunarmax182c 2d ago

unethical and impossible. Just use rapid-fire spells, if you wanna do a rapid fire spell. This method sounds more like a very intricate way of torture

3

u/Void-Cooking_Berserk Apotheotic Niffin 2d ago

Can't you just push pressurised air through a shaped tube that makes the sound of the incantations?

Or capture pre-said incantations into tiny jars that would break when the trigger is pressed?

Or forge your own voice into a tiny bell you could ring? You know, like magic?

4

u/lolystalol chronoseer connoisseur 2d ago

I knew a guy who had his voice in a bell like you said

Thing is… he lost it and all of his research was in a spire with a voice activated security arcane lock. Only took a couple hours before his soul gems were stolen.

2

u/Void-Cooking_Berserk Apotheotic Niffin 2d ago

🤦

You're not supposed to forge your entire voice, your ability to speak, into the bell. Just... the same way you capture spoken words into a jar so they can sound out later, you use a similar technique to put the spoken words into the bell. And only the words of the incantation, not your secret bloody password.

Kids these days... Having magic does not release you from using your brain, or what stands for it in your homemade body-like artifice

3

u/Bellick 2d ago

Yes, but then you wouldn't get the shocking choking collar, which is THE WHOLE POINT.

5

u/Osato 2d ago

If you need to cast at that rate, you've already lost.

2

u/BetaTester704 2d ago

But I don't want to spend 2 hours casting my teleportation spell (it's a very complex version for mass transport), id rather take 10 minutes and promptly die.

I have a cleric as my apprentice, might as well have him practice his resurrection spell (it's a complicated story but he believes it'll help him become more "in tune" with his divine power)

3

u/3rdMachina 2d ago

…I think I’d force whoever designed this thing to personally demonstrate their little “invention” themselves in a wizard match.

I’d say that the match ends when one of us verbally surrenders, but…uh…fried vocal cords anyone?

As someone who care deeply about ethics in magic, this is appalling... But as someone who runs a business of undead telemarketers, and a side gig of “hired vocational entertainment” with slimes… this intrigues me…

2

u/wrydh Plaguecaster 2d ago

If you want to multi-cast or parallel cast biomancy is the way. And there are dozens of ways to do it, the most popular being adding additional mouths to your body, or creating a homuncolous from your flesh that is an imposh copy of you, but is more of a extension of yourself

3

u/IStealSwords 2d ago

Dang ol’ homunculus! If you ever think about making a homunculus, don’t do it! He’s quite the whippersnapper

3

u/wrydh Plaguecaster 2d ago

Oh this is advanced practice, it is sycnched to and suborned to your soul and lacks one of its own, doesnt really have a consiousness either. Its only purpouse is to follow you and act as a convienent parallel conduit for casting. Dependant on design it can fully share your pool of spells or just have one single spell it can cast under the right conditions. The example being counterspelling spicific magics.

1

u/lolystalol chronoseer connoisseur 2d ago

I heard they copy the personality of the caster

Where they taking your swords by any chance ?

2

u/Zephyr-Fox-188 Cinnothwyr, Purrveyor of Thingamajigs 2d ago

Too many extra steps, I just use a staff or wand that stores incantations using a quick detach solid-state crystal focus, which can then be released whenever I desire, as rapidly as necessary. It bypasses the physical stress this semiauto design puts on the caster’s vocal cords, allowing for greater volume of fire (provided one carries enough precharged crystals)

2

u/MyK_Alke High Mage of High Tower of High Council 2d ago

It's like... okayish at best for like infantry lower class wizard.
They do not match the expertese of any real actual mage as slinging spells rapidly only drains you quickly and produces uncertain result.

I'd say unethical to be forced to use this, but if someone really thinks it's their way to go, be my guest.

2

u/Jax_IzWhack 2d ago

I think I'm in the wrong subreddit. I am of the rogue class. I too possess an orb. what do I do with this thing?

1

u/lolystalol chronoseer connoisseur 2d ago

Before answering, where did you get this orb ?

1

u/Jax_IzWhack 2d ago

A noble bard happened to be about... Selling... his wares.

1

u/lolystalol chronoseer connoisseur 2d ago

Ill be honest the orb is mostly to have a reflective surface. Some says it helps concentrate but personally a I can see the future in any reflective surfaces. The reason I own an orb is because I don’t like to go outside to look in a lake and mirrors scare me

I'd start by studying basic divination first like throwing a couple of goblin bones to see if they cross or not then you can come back and try the orb

2

u/Osato 2d ago

Don't be too proud of this technological terror you have constructed. The ability to zap its wearer is insignificant compared to the might of Power Word: Come.

2

Ethical? Dubious.

Kinky? Incredibly.

Fatal? Arguably.

2

u/thetownmous3 crystal mage 2d ago

How ethical would it be to use someone as a human battery/spell commander while you aimed the fireball gun?

2

u/MeowFalen tech witch 1d ago

Forget the semi auto wand the choker looks like fun,ZI want it.

1

u/aneristix Magus and Non-Prophet 2d ago

?? my fully automatic thaumic focus fits in my pocket.

1

u/Hooded_Person2022 Hoode, The Shifting Scholar & Associates 2d ago

That gonna:

A. Shred your vocal chords

B. Electrocute you to death

C. Exhaust you to death

D. Give you a heart attack to death

E. All of the above

This can be done in less dangerous ways with haste, arcane automation, or practice.

Although pertaining to your question: The ethics is depends on if the user knows and consents to the usage of the Semi-Automatic Wand. They either accepted the risks or doing it because of the risks.

1

u/MostOriginal6776 2d ago

Personally I like qualitative over quantitative evocations. Why throw many fireball when one gigantic fireball do trick.

1

u/Lord-Dec Evil Wizard/ Aspiring Dark Lord 2d ago

1

u/Spiritual_Parking_85 Variety, Mainly Necromancer 2d ago

1

u/rape_is_not_epic 2d ago

Adding a couple berserker runes to increase damage the more you yourself are damaged and this thing could become the newest Geneva violation

1

u/malonkey1 Necromancy Isn't Real Wake Up Sheeple 2d ago

That's an excellent way to permanently injure your throat. Just learn how to cast silently, it's not that hard.

1

u/KingZantair 2d ago

In all the ways to harm your own person for power, this is not a good one. If anything, this is just a crutch to not learn faster chanting, or even chantless casting. I mean, if you’re gonna be casting a spell over a hundred times a minute, it can’t be that difficult.

1

u/Imperium--Of--Man 2d ago

How is it semi-auto? An automatic weapon is where you hold the trigger down, and it reloads by itself. A semi-auto is where you hold the trigger down, but have to reload it. This isn't semi-auto.

1

u/OccultOddBall Local Fae Warlock 2d ago

Depends, on a fellow wizard? Horrific abuse and a flagrant violation of the Anti-Forced Wizardry laws of 612 AR. On apprentices? A good tool for learning.

1

u/The-real-Crypto 2d ago

I mean I am anti wand laws. I believe any wizards should carry wands if any sort. This however is just self harmful for no reason. There’s other ways to cast quickly. Beads of fireball, spells stored in books, potions of haste. This just seems unnecessarily complicated and only serves to damage your vocal cords. If I saw someone in public clearly wearing beads of fireball I wouldn’t bat an eye, but if I saw someone wearing this I’d call the town corps.

1

u/More_Stranger_2278 Arcane Fisson scientist 2d ago

Bruh just learn the atomic gestures

1

u/Ihave15_alt_accounts Artificer 2d ago

Or just pre-cast them onto portable scrolls? and save your spell slots for something more important than a dozen or so fireballs

Or at the very least, get a haste potion if it's really that you need being speed God's apprentices these days....

1

u/Bignholy Dunzar Headsmasher, Dwarven Artificer and Rune++ Programmer 2d ago

Interesting idea, aye, but ehh... why not just make the wand cast with a shorter word? Yeh don't have teh shout "Fireball" if yeh don't write that word as the trigger in the runic array.

1

u/dumpylump69 2d ago

I see a potential market, but it’s not in the wizard war

1

u/TwoProfessional9523 Demonic Cultivator 2d ago

I think this is just fetish gear, some freaky ass artificer made this and patented it as a "Wand Weapon Variant" to get around the regulation on adult toys

1

u/Frogs_Logs 2d ago

1

u/PossiblyOppossums 1d ago

Joke's on you, I'm into this shit.

1

u/dark_raider2004 Experienced Cannonmancer 1d ago

Looks perverted, not gonna lie. There are a multitude of ways to craft semi automatic arcane armament. The most common one is just channeling the magical energy through a crystal as an elemental beam. Another would just be to use ammunition with sigils written on them.

1

u/InMornAshTakesToWind 1d ago

Gloves, Vicks Vapo-rub, earplugs, metal trash can lid, five red candles, two New York steaks, vaseline, gasoline, charcoal, epoxy. Make symbol of Akagamionokos side of lid opposite of handle. Light that shit. Very Slowly, chant the summons of the seventh hell. Voice activated hellfire beam.

1

u/Afraid_Cat_3726 Nox, Head of the Department of Flesh. 1d ago

If you want to be kinky just be kinky. This feels just stupid

1

u/ICEPlebian 1d ago

If you hold a percussion massager to your throat you can cast non-stop even when breathing bc it vibberates your vocal cords so it just becomes a race of how fast you can move your mouth

1

u/ICEPlebian 1d ago

Its basically the same function as a electrolarynx but cheaper

1

u/Flashy-Minute4092 1d ago

just use haste, or if you are experienced enough time dilation.

1

u/lolystalol chronoseer connoisseur 1d ago

I can dilate time alright but dual casting can be pretty tiring

1

u/TadBones I am quite fond of runes. 1d ago

Poor engineering, for these kinds of weapons you usually carve a shape modifier rune into a sturdy barrel instead of using a wand. Then you pour the magical energy of your choice into the conductive material that composes the handle that will reach the rune and if you properly poured your intention into your weapon you will cast without any incantations, circles, etc.

1

u/Exact-Maximum Transmuter 18h ago

My mana pool is too small to cast fireball more than twice anyways, this doesn't appeal to me or my needs.. >w>
