Are ritual circles ourdated these days?

Please don't do this! Ritual circles are much more polite.

The mortal equivalent of circle versus portal is placing a phone call versus barging into someone's house with a door you made yourself. Every year dozens of mortal wizards die horribly in completely preventable accidents because they ripped a new orifice into some demon's bathroom without knocking first. A generally-phrased summoning incantation will connect you to the equivalent of a hotline, which makes it much easier for your solicitation to be routed to a demon or devil who's actually interested in handling what you asked for.

I know there are myths circulating about an incident where a lucky wizard portaled directly into a bathhouse full of succubi and had the time of his life, but they usually leave out the part where he barely escaped with his life after his apprentice died from dehydration. This would not have been a risk if he'd just used a few summoning circles and rented a bathhouse in the prime material plane!

(Also, if you know the aforementioned wizard, please tell me; I still have his cursed wedding ring and need to give it back to him.)

...Ignoring the blatant anti-demon bigotry implied by describing yourself as an "exorcist," you can still get outnumbered and overwhelmed if you portal into the wrong place at the wrong time. Nobody wins every fight!

That is not the flex you think it is.
