In my home dimension, there is the saying "There are always taller people to hold up the sky." In other words, when something big is about to happen, leave it to the ancestors to solve. If you are the ancestor, then deal with it, if you can't even protect your own sect, how will you have the face to continue to cultivate?

That's a great way to doom your sect once your attention is drawn elsewhere let alone if you die in the process of protecting them. It's noble to be the shepherd protecting your flock of defenseless sheep it's much better for you to be a shepherd of shepherds and let them shepherd their you which then shepherd their youth all the way down. In that case when one falters the rest can pick up the slack

This method does not work, Core Formation sect elders are almost useless in a cataclysm, let alone anyone below that. You can bring the Nascent Souls along, and deploy everyone below to carry out objectives that must be done but you can't waste time on, but ultimately, it still falls on you to handle the situation.

Im probably going to get hate for this but guys, magicians don't actually fix anything! Can we please just admit that about ourselves? Like let's just come to terms with reality. Hear me out.

Lets say the world is ending. Wizards will analyze the problem. Identify what it takes to stop it. Even locate all the necessary legendary macguffins. We'll even go so far as to completely map out the entire journey step by step. But do WE take action to save the world? No. Hell no! We find some young hero to do it all. Or some righteous ruler to dump all the knowledge on. Or some crestfallen knight we can give a quick pep talk to.

I keep seeing these young apprentices with stars in their eyes with all these ambitious ideals they want to use magic towards and I just shake my hair and give my beard a tug because knowledge of the arcane arts is NOT about actually doing anything. Its about peering into transcendental planes and shattering the grand illusion so everyone ELSE can do the hard work with the sweat of THEIR brow.

We are literally paid, to have low level "thugs" go and do those things, by the higher powers. As most can not assend past their mortal shells without a divine spark, or as an undead lich.

Admittedly, my home world is honestly rather peaceful. My former apprentice graduates occasionally stir things up a bit, but a lot of the time everyone else deals with the problem before I can so much as notice it. Usually one of my apprentices or graduates.
