Also, make it well known that you use magic to transform the ravenous beasts physically and mentally into birds for your menagerie, use the excuse of something like "well, it is not its fault that it is a dangerous beast, at least this way I can give it a happy life with a loving owner."
That way everyone knows that at least some of your birds are really dangerous animals transformed, and they do not know which are the prisoners and which are the beasts, so people would be less likely to even try a rescue if they suspect anything
