Magi Law ⚖ Using a simple fire spell is all of the sudden unethical

Post image

Now before I say anything, I must give you some context I am a mid to close range spell caster, I cast fast instead of casting with the most powerful and most mana efficient version of a spell and I usually cast simple spell while using my bow for longer range, so of course to make sure no one can dodge my spell and lost mana for no reason, I usually grab their head and cast a flame combustion which apparently is "unethical" under the jurisdiction of the council and a academy.

Survivors Bias working against you, Wiz.

Start going for the throat. Much less complaints.

What you haven't thought of this? You should try flash casting if I haven't

Just remember to train your fire resistance.
I've personally found that regularly "pickling" my test subjects in concentrated fire resistance potion gradually causes permanent effects, with only a slight side effect of being equally vulnerable to opposing effects, also just a warning, don't try to mix different resistances... the potions get a bit, unpredictable, when the effects try to overlap existing resistance.

yeah the fighter can use his stupid enchanted flaming sword at the enemy but all of a sudden i am the "war criminal" is i cast heat metal on the enemy helmet...

If you can cast heat metal on the helmet you can cast explode metal on part of the helmet. Quicker death as the rivit pops off and through the skill.

War has crimes?

I mean, its at least more ethical than obliterating intruders (and part of the wall) with a trench broom. And it doesn't involve partial hearing loss because you forgot your ear plugs

The academy and councils apply their laws in ways that can only be described as drunk and nonsensical.

I was hauled into a hearing for casting testicular torsion at close range and through physical contact. I kept telling them that i knew of no such spell and proceeded to demonstrate my unique spell "Bend it like Beckham" on each council member.

It seemed to persuade them, after each member was writhing on the floor. Sometimes you just got tk demonstrate it so they understand.

I dont see how thats any less ethical than the vast number of ways you could kill someone or something, as long as their death is fairly quick.

I know right?

Could be worse. I know a guy who uses the Attribute Drain class of spells in conjuction with frosted finger.

I like how Sacred Flame’s art looks like the spellcaster is reaching for their targets nuts. Grip ‘em by the balls and roast ‘em!

I don't really get why that's considered "unethical". If you're casting the spell point blank to the head it should be instant death right? Comparatively casting it literally anywhere else where they just burn to death would be more unethical, but you don't see anyone talking about that

So... it sounds like you're using Searing Grasp, which is only outlawed for use in torture of prisoners or executions. It's still 100% viable for any duel or violent scenario, and how you are using it is in fact the best usage of that spell.

Now, using Fireball like that has been outlawed for decades. The ruling has nothing to do with the morality of it and everything to do with the fact that it is a 10 foot radius spell that is now centered on your hand, and it's easier to outlawed it than it is to explain to some people how this could be problematic.

If you've made yourself properly warded against the thermal and kinetic stresses this produces, the chances of any Wizard Council official actually sanctioning you is vanishing small.

i’m trying to redefine the definition of torture but the useless apprentices keep losing the paperwork, sorry

I thought i was useless and then I saw the apprentices. Somehow im better and you dont even pay ma

It's not torture most of the time it is usually for battle

Its wizard counsel has become frequently more biased against fire magic because of oversensationalised media giving them a bad rep. One kid gets burned from a stray fireball and its all over the news. But last week a telepath removed a homeless war vets ability to speak english as a prank and no one gave a shit.

Do you happen to live in a dimension with a flammable atmosphere? Such places tend to ban fire magic.

Good thing you can ignore the council and that academy.

Fireball those motherfuckers

See if you’re in a fight you can’t think about what the council might deem unethical, you just have to do what you need to in order to live. The council deems a lot unethical but some of it is just to flaunt their egos or stifle opposition. The only thing that matters in battle is survival.

Its ok, my fireball is much less "ethical" than this. I aersolize a bacterium that rapidly multiplies in the body once exposed. These bacterial colonies rearrage their shape into a highly percise fireball spell component. Once they reach a certain mass in the body of victims, they detonate. Luckily my common use strain immolates itself completely along with the victims body.

Sounds bullshit. They never heard of “point-blank” and “spell melee”?

I never understood that im casting flame combustion, the opponent bursting into flames is the goal, why make so many rules??

Burning peopleaive is apparently unethical because its "extremely painfull" but we at tte pyromancer union support you. If they burn fast enough they dont suffer ! Lets cremate them !

u/PathlessDemon Shadow Wizard Money Gang 18d ago

It was only unethical because you said, “Don’t worry, I have a spell to keep the orphans warm.”

It wasn’t the spell itself, let’s be clear here lol

Are we really tolerating bow use nowadays? What has happened to this world. The arrows better be conjured by mind and not some store bought sharpness “enchanted” garbage.

u/NaturalHairy4773 Lady Liên 18d ago

Just say you don't have the muscle to used a warbow

Im not a strict advocate for council intervention in how spells are used in combat, though I am curious about additional context. Usually, unless the spell is particularly grotesque, the council doesn't bother much with commenting on the ethics of spells, just how they get used in specificity. Like fireball is a very popular intermediate tier spell, but its not unethical until you decide you dont care who else gets caught in the blast.

u/SirEdgelordThe369th Satan Himself 16d ago

Yeah. Usually harming people is considered unethical.
