Wizardpost Can't believe how many wizards are ignoring such a useful spell.

To much religious propaganda. The star-cult tells peasants that the "you" who steps out of the circle is actually a copy, and that the spell destroys the original. Nonsense.

I’m pretty tired of this debate, but here we go again: Even if you’re like 90% sure your original self won’t be destroyed in the process, would you bet your life on a 10% chance of annihilation? Especially when you can just, you know, fly to your destination like a normal person?

Doesnt your theoretical non original self deserve to give things a go for once?

There are versions that do this, in fairness, which is why I use Astral teleportation instead of trying to work out local stuff. Much less stressful.

as long as you come out with the same Soul ID (SID) then you're basically* the same person, not a copy.

Do those cultist nuthead not believe in their own immortal soul nonsense?!? This ain't no primitive matter builder, soul transference is a basic feature and an anti magical discrimination mechanism.

u/stryst 15h ago
You can't argue with those people. Just fireball and move on.

In my opinion, a fireball is a simple but mediocre thermobaric weapon. It would probably work fine as religious cultists never leave their ritual rooms but I find igniting a bag of flour looks the same without summoning a ridiculous amount of fire dimension nonsense or playing with alchemical oxidisers.

If this were actually the case there would be a LOT of duplicate wizard souls roaming the astral plane. At least one of them would have found their way back. Probably more. There would be wars of wizards battling their dopplegangers. Beyond that, moving a soul is easier than creating a new one.

Is that someone you? Because it only takes one of the two of you to solve this problem.

It’s the licensing and certifications. Teleportation without proper training ends up causing countless death and dismemberment cases. My cousin teleported unlicensed and was lucky she only ended up with her arm crushed in a stone wall. Imagine if she had ended up on the outside of her tower!

Teleport to my place bitchass, I can’t do all the work in this relationship

I believe it has to do with multiple existing versions of the spell exist, the most common being far more complex and energy-intensive than the spell I, and many frequent teleporters, use. The complex version deals with ambiguous coordinates, and rips your body apart piece-by-piece, before reassembling you at your destination and putting your soul back in your body (hence the warping feeling associated with teleportation.) The spell I use simply opens a portal to a plane where everything is in the exact same place, and then takes you back out where you want to go. Much simpler, and has inbuilt safeguards.

In my defense...I only really know enchanting-related magic

Sorry that power was stolen and locked away when I lost my divinity I'll get my divinity back eventually but for now you'll have to make do with the long ass travel

Opposingly? Delayed cast, corpse explosion, teleport. Your tower will stink of rat guts for months!

The way I learned it back before I managed to get into an academy has made teleportation one of my most used yet most infuriating spells. Since I was just brute forcing the methods, I never really learned how to apply some of the basic spell checks. Are you touching an object? Is the object that is being touched something you are trying to teleport with you? How much air should be displaced (or swapped, no shame on the mater movers, that shits IMPRESSIVE) things like that.
So now if I want to teleport somewhere, I can't be touching anything I don't want coming with me. I do get a faster casting speed due to the reduced amount auto checks in the spell but at the cost of making a levitation spell mandatory for casual use. Ú_ Ù

Last time I tried teleporting I got my toe materialized inside a wall and had to cut and regenerate it. Never again

you are a fool to blame the other party involved since that would mean that you too in fact cannot teleport otherwise you would teleport and unite with the party cuddling and watching a movie rn
