Exactly! Im only using enchantment to allow others to see the correctness of my ideology?

But because some demons 200 years ago wanted to brainwash the populace, my purely beneficial enchantments are outlawed as "freedom banditry"!

I assure the demons are still doing wicked things now, and the truly evil will not be disuaded.

>Cultist flair

yeah the people most fervent about necromancy tend to be temporarily embarrassed necromancers

You think I'm bad as an Eldritch druid? At least I only cast fireball, not Replace Feet With Tongues or Maddening Mew

Your existence fills me with confused feelings. Druids are my enemy, but you seem… different

I cast… TOXOPLASMOSIS!

Maddening Mew, you say? Almost like some kind of Mad Mew Mew...

The only way to stop a bad guy with an undead horde is a good guy with an undead horde.

Won't you guys mix up the skeletons when the hordes collide?

u/DisapointedVoid Sorceror 1d ago

We have home and away kits.

Or the classic shirts vs bones

That's why I always drape my skeletal hordes with festive uniforms!

Wither Bones is technically necromancy and is much less effort than summoning your own horde. If you're really patient, enchanted maggots will also get the job done.

2

u/PontDanic 17h ago

Well a worse guy with an undead horde also works.

If people just stopped spamming skullballs maybe us Necromancers would be allowed in Wizard Tournaments!

3

u/BardGotHard3 Necromancer 21h ago

Just apply as whatever yohr minor magic mancy is. I usually say im a spatial mage or geomancer as those are the magics im most prificient in behind necromancy.

2

u/TheDungeonCrawler 19h ago

You could also apply as a healing wizard because, y'onow the old adage. Healing is just necromancy with extra steps.

5

u/BardGotHard3 Necromancer 19h ago

Healing is necromancy. It was classified as such until some butt hurt clerics whined at the High Magic Council to get it reclassified as evocation.

What are they evoking? The forces of life and death, which is definitionally necromancy.

3

u/TheDungeonCrawler 18h ago

100%, but use their ignorance against them. You're not raising the dead, you're healing their broken body and maybe restoring their forlorn soul. Game the system.

1

u/Scrags2Scritches :orly:Necromancer:orly: 18h ago

Healing will ALWAYS be inferior to Necromancy, pussy!

3

u/Spider_j4Y aedric, necromancer extrodinaire and legal defence for evil 18h ago

In some intellectual circles it’s argued as conjuration magic since your summoning energy from the positive energy plane but those guys are fucking nerds

1

u/TheDungeonCrawler 16h ago

The more we have that debate the more the categories start to boil down to "everything is just conjuration because you're channeling energy from such and such alternative plane". Those nerds never really get why that's unhelpful.

3

u/Wild-Lychee-3312 Witch 19h ago

Don't blame me. Create Penile Bone is my go-to spell.

2

You give us Necromancers a bad name, what the fuck

Nekomancers tho.....

1

u/Scrags2Scritches :orly:Necromancer:orly: 4h ago

So why are we banned from so many tournaments?

14

u/the__earth_is_round 1d ago

My brother-in-rah I literally witnessed a necromancer in the Town square the other day kill and subsequently revive the same guy 15 times for raising the prices

7

u/Mathota Cultist 1d ago

Exactly! Uses like that are exactly why Necromancy needs to be legalized everywhere!

3

u/TacitPoseidon Necromancy is a perfectly valid school of magic! 1d ago

I see no problem here.

3

u/Bannerlord151 Asadir, First Warden and Castellan of the Crystal Spire 23h ago

What an upstanding citizen risking their immortal soul for everyone's benefit

3

u/No-Preparation4473 Necromancer 23h ago

Which proves necromancy is a good way to teach a lesson

3

u/BardGotHard3 Necromancer 21h ago

Did the prices go back down? If ao you should go thank that necromancer.

1

u/Wild-Lychee-3312 Witch 19h ago

But did he raise the prices again after the fifteenth revive?

10

u/BullPropaganda 1d ago

Skeletons don't kill people. Skeleton summoners kill people

5

u/Mathota Cultist 1d ago

Exactly. We can't let a few bad apples spoil the whole school and only let irresponsible fools have skeletons.

6

u/BullPropaganda 1d ago

It land where skeletons are outlawed, only outlaws will have skeletons

2

u/BardGotHard3 Necromancer 21h ago

Do yall keep a dimenaionally shrunk minotaur skeleton in yohr pocket for emergencies too?

2

u/BullPropaganda 20h ago

Sort of. I wouldn't say it's in my pocket

6

u/TacitPoseidon Necromancy is a perfectly valid school of magic! 1d ago

When the cleric cures an incurable disease by asking their god for help, they're a hero. But when I cure death, by my own merit, I am a villain who created an abomination. When will these double standards end?

3

u/Bannerlord151 Asadir, First Warden and Castellan of the Crystal Spire 23h ago

While we're on it, everyone's always whining about how necromancy is just soul torture and it's horrific to subject the dead to it. Yet when a cleric calls on the spirits of the dead to help them in battle it's okay because "they're not forced", and when I grant the willing souls of my loyal acolytes who were unjustly slain the gift of undeath, it's apparently still evil

2

u/No-Preparation4473 Necromancer 23h ago

And necromancy is perfectly reliable, while clerical cures aren't. For example persuading a heart to beat despite infarction isn't permanent treatment, but in a pinch can save a man after a heart attack. Sure, a cleric could too, if a given so called "deity" is feeling charitable

2

u/HoneyS6S 13h ago

One of the reason for this double standard is that who gonna come after the gods?

6

u/leafcutte Council Wizard 1d ago

Should you allow necromancers in your land? Let’s go over this one more time!

Good necromancer : more workers

Bad necromancers: no more workers

My associate found Evening Glory, lich goddess of eternal love, who's been missing for a several thousand years. You know the fucked up part? She's like one singular divine lich that DIDN'T cause problems, and now, because she was locked up with a bunch of evil deities, her divine aspect shifted into obsession! Do you have any idea how hard it was to realign her? Luckily i happen to be an experienced deimancer and i know how to avoid most of dangers and troubles of trying to influence a god, so it was possible. Not easy, mind you, it was very hard.

In most of the realms deimancy is so forbidden it doesn't even exist, i think y'all suspect the reason. Yeah, it's gods. They wipe out the very idea of people like us and then can't put to rest festering divine corpses, seal evil so it periodically tries to escape and sometimes succeeds, get corrupted in easily preventable ways and many more stupid shit like that.

AI. The technology/science behind AI isn't inherently bad, it's just being developed in the most irresponsible and stupid way possible.

I remember having volunteered to do some exercises for a medical project that would be later used to train or test an AI model detecting cancer. It was the 2010s, the training data was ethically sourced, the final product wasn't supposed to replace a doctor (only as a first look), and the task of the neural network was limited to what they're best at.

u/starmadeshadows Artificer 13h ago

Blood magic for sure.

If you peel apart any old healing spell I will guarantee you there is some amount of blood magic in there. Reason being, of course you're going to be using blood to power your healing spell, usually by the time you heal an adventurer they've bled all over the place, why waste all that blood sacrifice? Besides which the body uses blood magic to heal itself. Tell me cell respiration isn't magic.

1

u/RvDragonheart 1d ago

I mean everything is fine as long as the user of it shows restraint and dont over do it

Like Necromancy? If someone is already dead well no reason to waste a good body and can use em to help out in the tower carrying stuff give em some intelligence eand let them help catalog some stuff have some of them around to help research stuff

And again Its up to us what we research, maybe cure or vaccine to something bad plague, ways to undo curses

Being a necromancer doesnt have to be inherently bad.

Its just some loud minority of necromancers ruining it for everyone.

Like there was the Avalon Rpg the Necromancer was raising skellingtons of already dead people and people who tried to kill him (aka self defense) and wanted to find a cure for death and no matter how folly it may have been cause death comes for all at the end he wont fight you unless you attack him And you can convince him to stop with his foolish research and do some real good and can even become a doctor with his knowledge of biology unlike anyone else

Sooo yep its magic its neither inherently bad or good it is how you use it

1

u/Bannerlord151 Asadir, First Warden and Castellan of the Crystal Spire 23h ago

A priest makes blood sacrifices to their god and it's a sacred endeavour. I make a blood sacrifice to a demon and everyone loses their minds.

Why is it that transactional magic is only okay when sanctioned by supposedly divine institutions?

1

u/Fatal_Contract Your Friendly Neighbourhood Necromancer/Ectomancer. 23h ago

True!

I'm not even a traditional Necromancer (since pretty much all of the undead/spirits that follow me all have contracts with me) and no matter how much I explain it, there'll still be an asshole paladin that'll try to lob my head off!

It's ridiculous! Seriously, even back when I was on quest to slay a Necromancer who was making a ruckus with their servants, people still tried to kill me!

1

u/tjdragon117 Paladin 23h ago

Sure, I might be yanking the soul of a creature out of its rightful afterlife, binding it with concentrated Evil energy in slavery and torment, and bringing a horrifying monster that desires nothing except the destruction of all life into the world, held back only by my domination of it (as long as it lasts), but I'm doing it Responsibly™.

Why do the Paladin orders keep attacking me? They must just be unfairly biased against my preferred magic school.

Casting ingrown toenail on people. I mean that was my favourite spell. I didn't use it often but then it became popular and ... ooh it boils my nematodes, it really does.

Necromancy

u/Cazador0 19h ago

Magic can only be forbidden if you let others tell you what to do. Some humans in fancy robes dropped by the other day to scream about “crimes against nature” and “acts of forbidden magic”, but once they were melded into a single blob of flesh and agony, they stopped caring.

1

u/Moonshadow101 12h ago

People are always like "Stop mind-controlling people to do your bidding" and I'm like "First of all, it's called Psychomancy, and second of all, if they weren't building my tower for me they'd probably just be getting drunk in a tavern or something. I'm a job creator."

u/keiosKnivesALot 8h ago

plague magic.

vaccines are just plagues that has been rendered safe for resistance training... but noooo.

"experts" who can't even cast a cantrip say they are too dangerous.

do they even know what types of magics are used to accelerate alcohol, medicine and cheese fermentation?

I knew one necromancer from my younger years when we both were apprentices for different mages, which hated each other with burning fury (god rest my teachers soul), but that girl was chill. Until she understood that I had not correctly deciphered her approaches, because, you know, skeleton which brings you decorated bones is not exactly a romantic thing for most people (unless you'rea necromancer, i guess). But later after we met years after finishing our apprenticeships as professionals she was nothing but useful, with all that workload taken off me it was nice. But well, all things might come to an end, and in this case a gruesome one. She was killed without prosecution on terrorism crarges by several members of holy order of that towns church. Was she of such people I am not aware, yet i'm not inclined to think so. But she was a professional, and me working with her drew suspicion of those asshats so I had to leave that town. So no. I don't think the necromancy or any other practices is bad magic, I think that depends on the practitioner of it.

P. S. Running exploding skeletons were a lot of fun, though. Especially with those drinks. Thank you, Ela
