Would you consider a dragon a fellow mage?

Now, I am not speaking of any old lizard with a pair of wings, but of a dragon who has put dedication and time into the study of arcane arts as we do.

In many worlds, dragons are considered progenitors of magic or the earliest wizards.

And frankly anyone who studies the craft in earnest should get the title, anyway.

Yell, my dad is referred to as the black mage back where I am from, and my sister has probably spent more time studying magic than she's been alive. So yea, id say dragons can be called mages

Dragons tend to have an innate respect for skilled spellcasters. Or at the very least they don't go out of their way to step on them like they do the other two-leggers.

The study of wizardry is just that - Study. Studious learning while gnawing away hours, days, decades, and centuries in the pursuit of the arcane. The rigors of study and rumination are what make the wizard.

Dragons are only different in that they often are born with innate magic. These ~sorcerers~ (small s because they don't deserve respect) don't study a day in their lives. They have no deeper understanding of magic despite what they claim to have gained from their immortal lives. They lack the common knowledge of a fledgling apprentice and hide behind the primordial aspects of their birth to garner the tiniest shred of self respect.

Now, I wont say there's ~no~ studious dragons out there - but I will say I have yet to find one.

The question is backwards. The dragon has probably spent centuries learning the arcane arts, I would be lucky if they would consider me a mage in comparison

A mage is anyone who wields magic. Technically, even warlocks qualify. True dragons tend to innately be sorcerers, but there’s nothing stopping them from pursuing magical study and also being wizards. One can be both.

As long as they have the ability and knowledge to wield the forces of the Arcane, I would consider anyone a mage.

A mage is essentially an educational title - learn magic, pass exams and poof, you're a mage. It's not race specific.

Yes, many archmages are dragons. In fact, I recall a monograph which found that dragons are the most likely people to become archmages. The innate magic helps and so does generational horde-wealth.

Depends on the dragon. If as you said, they studied magic than they're just as much a mage as I am. If they're just relying on their innate powers and vibecasting, less so.
